J.Cole facing an identity crisis just like LeBron.
It used to be endearing when LeBron would pass and be unselfish but then yall wanted him to be the ultimate scorer and that didn’t pan out.
Cole used to be deep and introspective, but that ain’t gonna sell records. Now he’s out here doing his best Drake or Big Sean impressions.

Drake is the best of both world’s in one.
He’s like less talented versions of Jay-Z and R. Kelly rolled in one.

Man look… What that boy said?
I ride throught the ghetto windows down halfway
Halfway out of my mind, music on 9, blasting Donny Hathaway
Me and my niggas spending half the day
Plotting, how we gon get this math with out getting blast away
I wake up to the same problems after today
Life is harsh, niggas gotta right ta spark
Right from the start they place me in the ghetto tender age of nine
I tend to mine and to surrender to crime
Wouldnt wish this on nobody life ta end up like mine
Ever since i was quite young a nigga been in ta crime
Had to scratch for every plaque, rap aint even all its cracked up to be
Niggas dont stack up to me
Had to hustle in a world of trouble
trapped in, claustrophobic the only way out was rapping
America dont understand it, the demographics i tapped in
I’m the truest nigga to do this nigga and anything else is foolish
Like those who stay high, under God’s grey skies
My lyrics is like Bible, made to save lives
In the midst of all your misery nigga, stay fly
Never let em see you frown, even smile when you down
Shit, i floss on my off-days fuck what they all say
Niggas cant stop me, like rumors, i’m too strong
All-day
Socks exploding, sweatpants pockets bulging
Holding it down on the corner with my glock holding
My spot is golden, drop the price on the coke and
Drove the competition out and let the dough flow in
The cops is closing in, i can do the time
But whats really on my mind, aint no hoes in the pen
I play the low and try and make it hard to find me
Feds still tryna build a case since ’93
I told them, i’m retired but they like whatever
You know them pigs dont wanna see you get your life together

I think what Jay Elec and J. Cole are scared off is sales.
They get love but you deliver an album the wrong way and it bombs?
It stays on your resume and you might not recover … makes it A LOT easier for niggas to write you off …
=============================
The label is supposed to have these niggas backs tho.
Who honestly thought Jay Electronica would go platinum?
I always thought he’d release a brilliant critically acclaimed album that bombs commercially, so what?
Music that stands the test of time > A single that lives a couple of weeks on 106th & Park
I thought being an artist himself, Jay-Z would understand that, especially considering the kinds of acts he’s been signing.
Give Cole & Elec some Kanye West produced singles with Rihanna on the hook and let the rest of their album be what they are.

I dunno how the HELL it’s possible that the live versions of so many songs are sounding better than the studio, must be the energy.
No, actually, DEFINITELY the energy. Cole needs to speed this shit up and give it some more “umph” (||), that’s all.

“You need inspiration, you need to hear something loud inside yourself before you can create anything. Unfortunately, the business of music is what taints an artist’s desire to make music. I don’t want to paint a picture of being jaded, because I love making music. I honestly love it. But there is a level where making music becomes a total life-sucking commitment. For instance, to do an album and a tour, you have to be absolutely certain that whatever you have to say is from the heart, because you’re going to say it a thousand times– and on nights when you don’t feel like performing. You need to feel inspiration to get to a level where you’re performing like that. But I haven’t felt that level of conviction the past few years. And without that conviction, it’s crazy to put yourself out there.”

This is spot on.
We know what Cole is capable so we can ignore a song like this cause we know he has songs like “Lost Ones”. But for him to get his buzz where it needs to be to make an album release feasible, this is the kinda song the label has to push.

I think Higher is better than this song (better flow, better content, and no stupid constipated sounding vocals). But, all in all J. Cole is a better artist when he makes deep, emotionally charged, meaningful songs i.e. Lost Ones, Enchanted, Killers, Premeditated Murder and half of the songs on The Warm Up. He needs to stay in that lane, and for his singles stay with that deep vibe but with a twist on the hook, kinda like Lights Please or Dreams

G.O.O.D Music > Roc Nation
I can see Kanye being a better mogul than Jay-Z.
Jay-Z is that CEO that is far removed from day-to-day operations and lives in his corner office or board room trying to make big business deals beyond music.
Kanye is that CEO that works closely with the artist, provides real feedback to artists, and is probably up in the studio with the artist from time to time.
Basically the measure of Roc Nation success is their net worth and the measure of success of G.O.O.D Music is the quality of music they release.
Jay-Z got some big wins with signing Rihanna and Rozay, and lots of potential with Willow. But these artists would be successful regardless of who signed em.
Under Kanye watch, Common, Kid Cudi, John Legend, and Big Sean have become moderately successful. And Kanye likely played a more significant role to help his artists achieve success.
Obviously it helps that Kanye’s a producer but he was very generous to let artists on his roster hop on G.O.O.D Fridays. Jay-Z would probably be more worried about the fact that that he ain’t getting paid for the music rather than viewing it as a marketing expense.

J. Cole Talks Debut LP, Contemplates B-Sides Mixtape

J. Cole calls his upcoming debut project “really heavy” and considers releasing a mixtape comprised of the album’s left-overs.
Ever since news broke last week that J. Cole is looking to drop his long-awaited debut this fall, fans have been clamoring to hear more about the Roc Nation signee’s project. Now, in a recent interview with Billboard, Cole hints at what fans can expect to hear on his debut LP.
Cole explains that his as-of-yet untitled release is emotionally centered and “really heavy.” He added that while the project fairly deep, there is a good balance between serious topics and more fun moments.
“[The album is] really heavy – heavy in a good way,” he explained. “At first it hit a point where I was a little nervous; I thought it would be too emotional. But it ended up balancing really well, with fun and humor, and then some aggression, and then the really emotional-type of songs that I’m really good for. I feel like it’s a really complete album.”

Took me to church, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday
Than Sunday thinking why me
That was mama nem placin’ the love inside me
Our house was lively
My granny house, 8 girls and 4 boys beside me
Thanking Mama nem, for the weight that you carry
Pulling my teeth with friends sayin “boy you scary”
I ‘memba mama laughin sayin’ “Is it loose?”
“Very”
Pull it then, put cash in my pillow sayin’ its the tooth fairy

well… it was cool… but:
1) somehow we had 2 underaged girls and one dude show up… not sure how the law works where yall at but thats a no no here.. .so we kinda started off on that note…
2) as EFL said… a majority of the black folk didnt swim…
3) all the bad chicks was locked up with they men…
4) but all they swimsuits was BAD!!!!!…
5) at about 930 they made us move to another venue because my speakers were too loud and the lake that surrounds the pool apparently carries the sound…
hopefully i can get this video off my phone… if i do #teamshownprove will get it…
ALSO: only 1 thundergirl showed up :-(

Niggas have real short memories. It was literally less than a month ago that Curtis was releasing songs weekly, and all of em were dope.
He moved AWAY from Banks to let people see him as his OWN artist, rather than Curtis’ Son-Son, and it WORKED. Banks was always dope, he just didn’t have the personal drive to work (word to prodigy’s interpretation of that meeting) until later in his career.

In this case, tho, its essentially justified. Curtis & Sha Money handled damn near everything for them niggas (banks, Buck, yayo)– got em endorsements, production, management… all them niggas had to do is RAP and reap the benefits. There’s enough evidence that all Banks did was smoke weed, fuck bitches, rap, and collect the checks.
