R.I.P. Gil Scott-Heron

Friday, May 27th, 2011

Pitchfork confirms that Gil Scott-Heron passed away today, at the age of 62, according to a publicist at his record label.

NPR reports:

Gil Scott-Heron died Friday afternoon in New York. He was 62. The influential poet and musician is often credited with being one of the progenitors of hip-hop, and is best known for the spoken-word piece “The Revolution Will Not Be Televised.”

The Daily Swarm points to the Twitter account of his publisher in the U.K. who apparently broke the news.
