Rock The Bells 2011 Lineup

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011

Yeah, so this looks like it’s going to be ridiculous. Let me get this straight, Nas is bringing AZ, Pete Rock and Preemo? Woah. It’s nice to see Roc Marciano on the bill. Ms. Hill, Black Star, Ghost & Rae, Mobb Deep and Random Axe alone are worth two times the price of admission. Never mind Black Moon and Slaughterhouse. Although the press release does note that certain performers will only be playing select dates. Either way, I don’t see how you can go wrong with even half of these acts.  RTB 2011 will hit the following four cities on the following dates:

ROCK THE BELLS 2011 FESTIVAL SERIES Tour Dates

08.20 San Bernardino, CA – San Manuel Amphitheater

08.27 Mountain View, CA – Shoreline Amphitheatre

09.03 New York, NY – Governor’s Island

09.10 Boston, MA

There will be a ticket pre-sale on June 3 from 10 am PST to 10 pm PST, with general sales starting the following day.

Click through to the Rock The Bells site for more info.

UPDATE: Mobb Deep to perform The Infamous in its entirety, Havoc says Mobb Deep and Nas album is in the works.

A Few New Wiz Khalifa Interviews

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Such is the nature of the internet nowadays that for every press run an artist does, we’re gonna get like 20 to 30 redundant interviews. It can be mindnumbing to watch somebody answer the same question over and over, so I can only imagine how mindnumbing it is for the artists to answer them. This being his first trip to the Europe, the bloggers, journalists and videographers over there seem to be having a field day with Wiz. From what I can tell of these, he’s not saying a whole lot we haven’t heard before, but if you’re a die hard fan you might be inclined to watch. In the second clip after the jump, Wiz smokes a joint through most of the interview and the chick asks him if doing shit like that is an aspect of his “I don’t give a fuck” attitude. Comedy.

8ounz ft. Kendrick Lamar – College Girls

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

This was originally 8ounz’s song with Kendrick and this kid J. Capri jumped on the track.

After doing a show with them, and feeling the song so much, North Carolinian J. Capri adds an incredible middle 16 to the “College Girls” track by 8ounz, and Kendrick finishes it off with an absolutely stunning verse.

Video: Substance Abuse ft. Tash (of Tha Liks) – Don’t Get Us Wrong

Tuesday, May 24th, 2011

Available for download on iTunes.

Eso Tre and Subz are L.A. duo Substance Abuse. The former URB Next 100 picks dropped their debut Brand New Crime in 1998, following up with 2006′s Overproof which featured Motion Man, Saafir and Rasco and received four-star marks from URB and Scratch. “We”re big fans of Tha Alkaholiks and have fond memories of going to the Coast II Coast release party back in the day, so working with Tash was a pretty surreal experience,” says Eso. “We tried to capture a little bit of the vibe from the 21 & Over and Coast II Coast albums with this track but with a more updated feel. We wanted to have a party jam but still keep the lyrical content, and Tash definitely came through in that respect. Tash also was really proactive in coming with ideas for how to flip th e video and we appreciate how involved he was in that. We also got to perform with him the night we filmed the final sequence of the vid which was a lot of fun.”
