^Yep. I want to do IP work because I was an engineer and seen ideas get snatched from people that knew no better.

The job offered is me being a junior researcher. I’d basically be checking the measurements of existing patents and determining if it’s legal encroachment or not. It’s simplistic and boring. Mentally agonizing. It’s actually a part of what I want to do, but its me reporting to someone else and they get the credit for it.

And my mentor is a God send. I mistakenly quoted him in a paper and didn’t give him credit. We had a sit down about it and it was history after that. I somehow got added to his mailing list on his pre-article submissions and he’s been coaching me since.

^^Take the job mate. It’s only slightly removed from what you want to do and if you ask any partner in a patent attorney firm what they did starting out, half of them will tell you they were researchers in the first instance. Providing the firm has room for growth you’d be stoopid not to take the opportunity. If you’re smarts are certified which I’m sure they are, you’ll grow in the business fairly quickly.

^yep. I going to gave to in order to get to where I need to be.

Thanks for the guidance. You’re basically reiterating what my mentor is telling so I KNOW it’s golden info.

What do you do, if I’m allowed to ask?

^^Yeah course. I work for a company in corporate governance, consulting to company boards and c-level executives (CEO, CFO, CIO etc) on governance processes in their organisations. Also work on upskilling directors in risk management and strategy. Been doing it for 8 years. I did an honours degree in Politics. Completely different to what I’m doing now. So what I’m saying is, think of the big picture, have a stratgey of how you want to get there and definable goals to achieve a long the way within a certain time frame. This helps you check where you’re at and where you’re going. If I can be of any help I will. No homo and alla that.

My networks are impeccable due to my client base (all board level directors or c-level execs) and I have some connects in the US. If you want me to try and sort out a convo with a partner in a patent attorney firm in the US then let me know. I might be able to arrange it.

  7. EnglandRepresent Says:

And not trying to sound like an arrogant fuck here, no Iceberg.

    ^Well damn…

That’s dope. Really dope. That’s where I’m trying to get, but with the down-trodden. I want to help them see their bigger picture with the ideas they have before it disintegrates. Basically give them a SWOT on their life with a Life plan (similar to a business plan) to set them on their way.

But still though, that’s a lot of weight you’re carrying. C lvl clientele? That’s a major feat to be able to advise. Big ups to you on that. I need to step it up a notch, lol. I’m slacking.

^Nah, you’re all good. I asked. You dont boast or come here to shit on others like their beneath you. Part of the reason I don’t fully believe Iceberg. Although, he may have some truth to what he says.

As far as connection go, I may just ask for names and get my research and submission letter game on. I’ll have to run it all by my mentor first. And I’d send you my resume first so you can see where I stand if that came to play itself out. No blind marketing.

I think my mentor will want to email you first. He always tell me to ay it close.

^^Sounds like a viable project/business plan/philanthropic idea dude. But as I said get yourself solidified before you start out on it. It’s easier to work from within an organisation. Hell once you’ve defined what the idea actually looks like you can patent that shit yourself.
C-Level execs are actually the level down from who I usually consult to which are directors of companies (non-executive directors, Chairman etc). It is what it is. They’re all people too, you get some arrogant bastards, you get some good peoples. It’s a mix. But yeah I know a Managing Director of one of the biggest IP firms out here pretty well and his network is extensive. As I said I have some connects in IP firms in New York too. Have a word with your mentor, if he doesn’t know anyone in IP law ask him if he thinks it’s a good idea to get some connects from other sources.
