Indeed. His assistants were going to a Black Keys show, he ended up attending and became a huge fan of the band, and convinced them to do the album. I think they’re also big Wu fans though, so they were pretty quick to agree.

I’m an entrepreneur too. One thing I noticed during SXSW while talking to all these aspiring rap and rock artists is that all these guys are their own little individual start-up companies. In other words, Jay created himself. Dame helped market it in the beginning. But lets be honest….if Jay wasn’t who he was, we wouldn’t be having the conversation because we wouldnt know who Dame is.
That said…Jay needed Dame too, but its not like Jay owes everything to Dame.

We give more credence to a nigga sittin down for 20 minutes and writing a few bars than we do his manager who been on the phone for 2 days trying to finalize flight plans, travel arrangements, wardrobe, schedule appearances to put his artist in a good light, lodging, booking etc, while also on the other line with the artists lawyers, accountants, security etc.
