The gov’t uses it’s own airwaves at short bandwidths so they don’t really care what public cell phone providers do, I think.
Their frequencies are less than 700mHz/s then jumps to 2100mHz/s. No in-between. That and satellites.

That said…I met a lot of rap niggaz I never would ever meet this week and caught some craaazy shows…caught the West Coast Vibe show last night, saw Slaughterhouse twice, chopped it up with Freeway, Crooked I, Trae the Truth, and Pill, met Alchemist, and mad indie rap niggaz from all over the country and partied with a lot of them niggaz…I can’t even remember it all.. DAYTON — The Dayton Police Department is lowering its testing standards for recruits.
It’s a move required by the U.S. Department of Justice after it says not enough African-Americans passed the exam.
Dayton is in desperate need of officers to replace dozens of retirees. The hiring process was postponed for months because the D.O.J. rejected the original scores provided by the Dayton Civil Service Board, which administers the test.
Under the previous requirements, candidates had to get a 66% on part one of the exam and a 72% on part two.
The D.O.J. approved new scoring policy only requires potential police officers to get a 58% and a 63%. That’s the equivalent of an ‘F’ and a ‘D’.

On the other side of that, one of the greatest predictors of success is how often someone reads (reading posts on Nah probably doesn’t count though)…

hl was mentioning Tyler around the time his blog first started. I remember he recommended him to me saying if I liked Eminem I’d probably like Tyler. And that’s a pretty good comparison, specifically Slim Shady LP Era Em. After that album the similarities start to lessen.

Honestly every collaboration Fashawn and Cole did was kind of weak IMO. That’s not really the Fashawn I wanna hear. I think he sounds better over darker production (ALC, Evidence, etc).

It worked for Gucci, not so much for the Clipse [but label problems and the Neptunes falling off hurt them more than anything].
Although I don’t really think it’s ironic love with Gucci. For the most part they pretty much said he was a fun rapper who was mostly dumb-fun but occasionally showed flashes of clever wit. That’s about right IMO.
They cosigned Flocka, too.

Cole’s O.K.
I was a bigger fan before but admittedly he needs something to make him less….boring. I like his relate-able content and he’s a good enough MC. I thought his beat selection was good on the Come Up and Warm Up, too. And it’s great he working with No ID.
But he needs something to make him more interesting. I don’t know what that is.
^His production on Friday Night Lights was the greatest of them all though.
I don’t think Cole is boring though. I guess because I listen to words more than anything when I listening to music.
Admittedly, I been playing Chase’s version of As Promise a lot this weekend.

It depends from artist to artist. To a large extent just like with their coverage of indie music, their coverage of rap seems very self-conscious.
They like to cover musicians and scenes that they can be a part of building up, which means they will often follow mini-trends and give them good reviews. Which in many cases helps those artists a lot in the long run.

Reasons to read reviews:
1) To hear a second opinion on music you heard and liked or didn’t like. Discussing music is half of what people do here [the other half being predominantly ether]. It really shouldn’t seem weird to read a review. Especially from someone whose opinion you respect.
And sometimes the best reviews are the ones you disagree with a lot. More fun. Same goes with lists.
2) Lists and reviews also help you discover new music. Not using these things to find new music is fine, but it is seriously efficient to do this. Think about it, instead of giving an equal chance for everything you can listen to stuff recommended by people you respect first. Nothing wrong with this.

I found the reviews I read (60D, d700, d7000, 7D, 5D) quite helpful before I copped my 7D.
The problem with Music tho is that it all comes down to your own personal taste in music. You really measure anything and it is all highly subjective. The only hope you got to find a critic that has a similar taste to your own (||)

Yeah, he sounds good over the grimier stuff, but his Exile collabs are pretty ill imo. The J. Cole beat didn’t remind me of Exile, but it had a solid mellow vibe to it. Definitely left it on loop a couple times to zone out.

Pretty much most mainstream publications that aren’t focused on rap.
Wayne, Kanye, Em, Jay, Tip, and any other rap heavyweights tend to get easy reviews from guys like Rolling Stone, Slate, etc. I couldn’t tell you why for sure, but I think a large part of that is the writing staff of those magazines don’t really have a great grasp on hip hop culture or even hip hop’s appeal from a pop perspective.

Not sure I really understand why you think something worse would replace HIV if it was eliminated, but anyway, the treatment that cured the cancer patient basically has no hope as an actual HIV treatment.
It’s a cool story since nobody’s ever been ‘cured’ of HIV before, but you could never give a normal patient radiation/bone marrow. Then to find a donor like that is really rare. Basically, if you have HIV *and* cancer, then you have hope… otherwise, it’s no help haha.

I honestly do it out of respect more than protecting myself. Going through racism and lynching has deeply affected the culture of African-Americans in ways they don’t even realize. It’s made them stronger and more resilient. It has also made them more skeptical of ” Whitey. ” They TRULY know what he is capable of.
I think it would be pretentious of me to hop off a plane and pretend I had all those great things.

That’s just my point of view. Africans have things to share as well. We are steeped in tradition and a family closeness that we don’t even realize. We move to a different beat of life and a quite introspective and have such a high regard for intelligence, education and learning.
But we both suffer from a lot of the same shortcomings. African-Americans and Africans both still have a selfish me-me my family above others attitude that prevents us from moving ahead. That’s why are inner cities are ridled with gangs and violence and African countries are plagued by dictatorships and corruption.
Why do you think Asians and Jews keep getting money and getting ahead? Them fools KNOW how to work together. I know they have shortcomings of their own, but their connectedness helps them get through a lot of them.
