Video: Q-Tip Talks Documentary Beef with MTV News
In this clip, Q-Tip finally breaks down his beef with the (unidentified) producers of Michael Rappaport’s Tribe documentary. He explains to Sway how he was accidentally forwarded an alarming email in which these parties schemed to have the group members removed from the film’s credits. When confronted about the email, the producers tried to run damage control and play it off as if the incident was borne out of frustration:
“Their whole comeback to that was, ‘Oh, he’s just frustrated, everybody’s frustrated,’ ” Tip said. But he countered, “When you’re frustrated you say, ‘Yo, I’mma kick his ass. He’s an a–hole, I can’t stand him, I’mma f— him up. I can’t f— with him again.’ Those are things you say out of frustration. But when you say, ‘First off, let’s close the Billing Block and put it on the poster so they can’t get on that. Then we’ll f— them on everything else,’ that’s strategy.
“That’s premeditated, first. And second, you feel comfortable to say it to the rest of your team. That means that if the environment is conducive for you to have that kind of banter and that kind of language, God knows what else they’ve been saying amongst themselves. So how can we trust them?”
Damn, that’s grimey. I guess rule #4080 applies to the film industry too huh. Tip did go on to say, however, that he still thinks Rappaport did a good job on the doc and believes people should still see it.

oh Promo Side Note for all acts trying to get their music out there.
Most DJs that use Serato registers their software online and in turn gains access to Serato’s WhiteLabel.net website. This site basically sends DJs that are signed up emails of tracks, singles, remixes, and of late, entire albums for them to add to their library.
I’ve come across some rather funky stuff that I otherwise would have not even known existed through this site.
If you’re trying to get your name out there, you should definitely see what the sign up process is from the Record Label perspective so that you can feed your music straight to the email accounts of damn near every DJ in the world.
