I never feel the need to listen to Cole. I’ll hear a song and think, that’s pretty dope and never listen to it again.

” And word is, that song was recorded around the time So Far Gone was being recorded. ”

Wasn’t that beat already sold way before ?

  4. A Chick Says:

^because you don’t get Eminem, Lil Wayne and Kanye West on a record without the suits backing you. And word is, that song was recorded around the time So Far Gone was being recorded.
    ——————-

You would have a point if Lil Chuckie or Gudda Gudda blew up instead of Drake.

But the fact that Drake is actually talented, comes from a music background, had commercial success as an actor which = an automatic following and makes good/sell-able music… trumps this “theory” that he was made by YM.

i don’t know if Drake was secretly signed or not but he did have wayne, trey songz, elzhi and the clipse on his 2nd mixtape that came out in 07… maybe he’s always had connections…

so i close all my excels, email everything

    and there it is.

I think most people DO root for him– they just all admit he’s missing something that would make him actually successful, instead of just internet successful.

Its like the difference between buying some fries from Mcdonalds, and going to but the potatoes, oil, and try to make them yourselves.

Sure, you have french fries, but are they as good as those Mc’D fries?

Cole might be able to do it though. He’s had a bunch of good looks so far. A slow burn to success. Success without disgusting compromise (BOB anyone?) or being a pop artist based in rap (Drake, Minaj, Cudi).

For those of us that consider ourselves ‘real heads’, we should be rooting for the guy. If he makes it, that might open the door to more artists with substance. I don’t think he’s “THE ONE”, but he’s good with me.

I was only 9 when Reasonable Doubt came out . First Jay album I got was the Dynasty when I was 13 and then I went back and got all the previous, and I instantly thought RD was his best album, even after I got BP.

my question is, were niggas really not feeling RD at the time? was it not considered a classic when it was first released? i thought it was only the source that didn’t class it as classic straight away (4 mics) and even they gave it a 5 years later after a re review.

RD got lost in the shuffle musically when it was released. There was SO much GOOD to GREAT music released that RD wasn’t considered a classic at the time. The CamelGOAT myth making began once Vol. 2 dropped.

Reasonable Doubt was praised at the time – but lyrically it went over a lot of peoples heads – jays bars were very complex – all sorts of extended metaphors/double meanings on reasonable doubt – politics as usual for example – people calling it a classic now because, they probably deciphered it years after

But they did it to themselves
I was gone do it with the flow
But they did it with their sales
I was gone 9/11 them, but they didn’t need the help
And they did a good job them boys is talented as hell
Cuz not only did they brick they put a building up as well
They ran a plane into that building and when that building fell
Ran to the crash site with no masks and inhaled
Toxins deep inside their lungs until both of them was filled
Blew a cloud out like a L into a jar then took a smell

Comparing RD to Illmatic is like comparing beef to chicken, at the time I enjoyed both for what they were, as I got older and wiser though I learned that all that beef wasn’t good for the system.

I still enjoy RD though..probably when Hov was it most humble, vulnerable, ungodly point..made for good music. All that other shit is just red meat though.

    36 Chambers >>>>RD
    The Infamous>>>>>RD

and keep in mind that it’s not so much that RD “went over everyone’s head” when it came out. it’s more of that it just got massively overshadowed (<–ultimate understatement) by everything else that was being released by other great artists at the time. and i happen to firmly (nh) believe that RD is easily one of the single greatest rap albums ever to grace the human race.
