Saigon – It’s Cold
The constant delays and push backs that plagued this project were exasperating to say the least, but I can’t front, the joints that have come out so far have been pretty dope. When I get my hands on the whole album, I’m gonna make a sincere effort to sit down and give it an honest listen and see if I still give a fuck. I think I just might.

Free’s verse on What We Do > Cass’ last 2 Lps completely
^^
His last two LPS?
Yea, of course, but the comparision isn’t fair.
But go back to Barrys FIRST 2 LPS for a better comparison.
I can take Barrys verse on Can I Talk To You, The Problem Vs The Hustla, AM 2 Da PM… Sheeeeeeeeeit. The Message, or Cas Verse on Can’t Fade Me– nigga was rapping toe-to-toe with Nasir.
Like I said, Cas body of work is REAL close to Leslies– Its moreso a preference, but to me, Cas has always been a BETTER Rapper, Leslie benefited from having Justin, Yeezy, and CamelGOAT in his corner. I don’t think Leslie with Swizz would get the same results, but I think Barry on the Roc at that time would be the fifth platinum act on that label (CamelGOAT, Clue, Young Gunz and Cam being the only ones.
But the battle will always be the moment of truth for both of them, and in Philly, that shit is why niggas only sorta fuck with Leslie, and still fuck with Barry.

Cass has had some bright moments, but he doesn’t have he capacity, as an artist, to consistently make that kind of music. It just isn’t him. He’s like Rafer Alston trying to conform to organized basket ball…had some bright moments, but couldn’t ultimately make it as a real NBA PG.

i’m getting entirely too pissed off at this convo. it’s like the entire rap world (fans/bloggers included) has adopted the South’s attitude towards rap, not just their sound. like i clearly remember being in Texas 10-15 years ago and those fucking bammas couldn’t understand why Wu-Tang & Biggie always sounded so “aggressive” and “mad angry” all the time. they scoffed at the 5% lessons that USED to be heavily dispersed throughout East coast hiphop. now the new generation of rappers and their fans are all like this. smmfgdmffffffgdmffh.

Your right, but you also can’t say that winning or losing a battle couldn’t make a career, or build a buzz.
Thats just not accurate– I mean Eminem and Rhymefest… Two battle rappers, hell Fest bodied Em, but Em got a deal off his battle raps.
Same thing with the Cass/ Free battle– that built Cass buzz.
I mean, the stories of DMX and CamelGOAT battling on top of pool tables, Shyne battling Mysonne, Cappa battling the Wu, Snoop battling Kurupt, Eve battling The Lox and Mase, Big battling on the corner… I can keep going on, but in the grand scheme of thing, being ABLE to battle is important, or at least it was.
I mean, now, being a battle rapper is the WORST thing you could be, because Grind Time, etc done made pigeonholed them, and the way they rap now doesn’t make people want to bother with their music.
But yea, your right. Songs >>>>>Battle Raps, unless the point of the song is a battle rap, lol.

December 14th, 2010 at 10:28 pm
I don’t think any of the nah rappers have ever broke out yet. What’s gon’ make you niggas different. You know you need a hit right? It’s a bunch of rappin’ ass niggas and there’s like a 3 to 5 year waiting period of just making music and connecting. shadowboxing with ashmi is not par for course on the latter, although he ain’t the only outlet. ..but, uh, niggas need a hit.

I started @ 5277 apparently.
I’m trying to hit an even 6,000 for the year of 2010 to help Ashmi cop up @ Sam’s Club for X-Mas. That nigga wants 20 boxes of cheeses danishes, and apparently each time I leave a comment, he gets about a nickel or so.
Gotta support the cause, fam.

@911
You wrong playboy. You don’t need a hit to eat off rap, look at the niggas like Wiz,Wale,Currensy,Mickey Factz, and these other blog type niggas. They might not be rich, but they comfortable off rap.

no hit, rank and file on the grind shit, for 3 ta’ 5. dead ass. 36 months ain’t a long time, by then you’ll have figured yourself out as a rapper anyway. there’s really like an unwritten minor leagues rule. I never said whomever couldn’t eat w/o said hit, but a hit expedites the model bitches lapping up your unborns on some wild jeff dahmer shit, you just need to grind to do it.
