In a press release sent out this morning, it was revealed that Jay-Z, La Roux and The Game will all appear on Detox, along with Snoop Dogg & Akon, and of course Eminem that were featured on the leaks of “Kush” and “I Need A Doctor“, respectively.
Back in September, Dr. Dre said that he scrapped “Under Pressure” and any leaked material from the album, so this means they replaced it with something else from the pair. There’s also a tentative release date for February 2011, but I’ll believe it when I get my copy see a Twitter rant.

Phonte recites this 3-minute half-written/half-freestyle over some very light percussion and piano (almost an acapella) as the bonus track to The Beast and Nnenna Freelon’s Freedom Suite album:
The Freedom Suite project gathered a bunch of great North Carolina artists – Phonte, Yahzarah, Suede, 9th Wonder, Kooley High, Darien Brockington, Carlitta Durand.
The music is along the lines of Jazzmatazz – jazz covers of hip-hop classics and vice-versa. The Revivalist, Okayplayer’s new jazz-inspired channel, premiered the album here.
The track isn’t on the album but Phonte appears on “Get Out of Town“.

Maffew is preparing the release of a Rare Gems LP. Two bonus cuts below. The first one is a bit more laid back and cooler whereas on the second one, he undertakes a sort of Madd Raper perspective on the game right now, and probably rightfully so.

This song takes a weird turn around the second verse where he starts talking about protecting the president and setting up a terrorist hotline and what not, but all in all not bad.

Premier talks to Al about his relationship with Jay-Z, what Jay told him he meant to his career and to his life, but more importantly, we get a virtual tour of the plaques on the Headqcourterz wall.
In our second and final sit down with DJ Premier, Premo talks about first working with Jay-Z and his relationship with Hov. He says that his attitude towards working with new artists is what helped build the relationship with him and Jay. Then he talks about the move to New York and how he was able to earn his stripes in the city that never sleeps.
Ironically, he wore a Jay-Z branded Yankees fitted for the interview.

The Bloomberg network’s Game Changers series traces Jay’s rise “from the street corner to the corner office”, through his early years under Jaz, the rise of Roc-A-Fella, his ascension to President of Def Jam and his monumental deal with Live Nation. They didn’t talk to Jay himself and they kind of gloss over the whole Roc split, but there’s some decent commentary from people like Steve Stoute, Barry Michael Cooper, author Jake Brown, Mr. Cee, Jaz-O, Jay’s 6th grade teacher and Lyor Cohen. They also took the lazy way out and chose to blindly perpetuate the myth that Vol. 1 was a horrible album and Vol. 2 was Jay’s big creative redemption. Because as we all know, with the exception of the “Always Be My Sunshine” fiasco, Vol. 1 is a way better album than Vol. 2.
