Man… If this dude Cole can do his debut with very few features I think the album would be great. Eh I shouldn’t be ranking best to worst and should just enjoy this shit. Big Sean never really raps like this. I blame Cole.

November 6th, 2010 at 9:59 pm
J. Cole > Big Sean > Kanye > Cyhi > Pusha
On a record where everybody stepped up the fire power, Pusha didnt keep up, kanye’s verse was too short and it was set up for J.Cole to run away with it by giving him the closer and letting him have an extra day to do his verse.
November 6th, 2010 at 9:59 pm

No hate, but I think it’s a bit odd to be discussing Pusha T as someone who’s about to be successful or not.
Does anyone recall Pusha’s been in the game since 2002?! If he hasn’t yet, he won’t. Look at his track record: Ye/Neptunes co-signs, arguably two hip-hop classic albums, and one classic mixtape under his belt.
Some artists just aren’t meant to “blow” and Pusha’s the valedictorian of that class…not a bad thing, just common knowledge at this point.

^
being a group member and going solo are two completey different animals.
and getting, what i think will be and what should be if he’s smart, a fully kanye produced album ( and that doesn’t just mean beats but vision as well) makes all the difference in the world.
Ye is bigger now than he’s ever been (n).
these things matter.

^CHUUCH. A lot of the track were mediocre and they were depreciating in quality. He dropped some hot joint in between and every time a hot joint dropped, people make statements like that to try and be like, “see, you niggas don’t know what you’re talking about”. Big Sean actually never brought it up. Drake mentioned in an interview, without any prompting, that he got the idea for the “Forever” flow from Big Sean’s version of “Lemonade”. Big Sean referenced that, but has never made any deal out of it.
Big Sean’s verse on “Good Friday” (which is >>>, except for his verse) is pretty garbage, but he’s definitely stepped it up on recent songs.

whiskers like a cat > 40k in child support per month
its crazy how Jay has created this false sense of ‘invincibility’ now, despite Ether. everyone is throwing shots and all of them are ridiculed. it just shows that anyone can bounce back from anything. word to michael vick.
to be honest, if jay and nas battled today, jay would win. nas would have the better verses lyrically (that goes without saying), but in terms of the actual ‘ethering’, jay would win hands down. Jay hasnt really taken any L’s since ether…hes just gotten bigger and bigger (nh) and got married to beyonce lol..what would nas’ punchlines be about? he’d prolly resort to going down the devil worshiping/ illuminati route (even tho Nas is allegedly a freemason himself)

he has average songs, an average flow, an average style….
He doesn’t have anything super about him…
If you’re average at one thing you have to be great at something else….
That’s how the game works and unfortunately it’s a fail for him….
Like biggie, he was an ugly fat motherfucker but his whole steez and his flow were impeccable, unmatchable……
There’s a whole bunch of Pusha’s out there I think, in this rap game you must have something that separates you from the herd and plus he’s talking about the same shit other niggas is talking about…
Keeping it fly, fucking hoes, jewelry, him and Big Sean on that tip…
At least change it up, I mean kanye tried to change him by making him where a blazer and shit but he still talking about that stuff so it doesn’t go well….

According to the Virginia Pilot, Anthony “Tony” Gonzalez, former Clipse manager and club owner has been indicted and charged with being behind a 10-million dollar drug this week by a U.S. District Court. The 34-year-old former club owner is said to have ran his drug ring mostly from his club, Encore Lounge, which was closed earlier this year due to a number of incidents including shootings and drug deals. The indictment against Gonzalez and the others involved states that they “put themselves out as music producers, rappers, entrepreneurs, club owners, clothing designers and other legitimate occupations in order to conceal the true source of their income.
”Through a number of businesses including his former club, a management agency and a trucking company, Gonzalez was able to launder some of the money he received through the sale of drugs. In total, Gonzalez is said to have distributed more than a ton of marijuana and more than 100 pounds of cocaine since beginning his drug operation in 2003. Although based out of Virginia, Gonzalez’s drug operation reached as far as South America.
An unnamed police officer also is listed as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 60-page indictment. Before being charged Gonzalez bragged about his inability to be caught referring to himself as the “Last Of The Mohicans” in a recorded phone call.Gonzalez was the manager for Hip Hop duo the Clipse up until 2006. The Clipse have yet to comment on the situation and they are currently managed by Steven Victor. Various sources report that as of late Monday night, Gonzalez was still at large.

I find it odd that when Reservoir Dogs came out when record sales were actually popping people weren’t discussing that Sauce Money or Beans had no it factor to sell records or anyone’s on the tracks marketability. Now when sales are at an all time low people are acting like they have a valid opinion on the music business stating who is going to sell or not and what recipe they need to succeed. A lot of A&R’s in this comment section. Same people begging for places to download their favorite rapper’s new music. The logic is astounding.

He dropped them back to back actually. Then he dropped Don’t Look Down. Don’t stop was the weakest link, sure, but it was clear even before Lupe confirmed it that it was an old throwaway track. Take One for the Team, on the other hand, was dope on some gutter shit. And Don’t Look Down was dope on some story shit.

—————————————–
Out of all of the guys on the songs, his delivery meshed with the beat the best. Granted, the beat pauses before he starts, and stops right when he wants to deliver his best lines at the end and that helps, but the point is he actually delivered. I don’t want to say his bars were exceptionally better than anyone else’s since everyone did well on this, but his lines hit harder for some reason.
I like the guy but he can be boring and I had a feeling Kanye, Pusha, and Cyhi would overshadow him even if his bars were better just because he can sound boring at times. That didn’t happen. In fact, the guy who had dope bars but still sounded boring was probably Pusha.

November 7th, 2010 at 12:04 pm
A lot of times how hard a punchline hits is based on how it’s delivered more than what it actually says. I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a rapper who’s lyrics are funny to read, and rappers who have good enough punchlines are a dime a dozen actually. It’s how a guy like Jadakiss can write something great and sound positively boring over the wrong beat.
November 7th, 2010 at 12:06 pm
Scratch that…Cam’ron’s verses are actually funny on paper. But that’s it–and he’s not a favourite rapper of mine.

But Wale was everywhere just prior to his album release. And that song with Gaga was being forced onto radio & video outlets.
^ i don’t know about that, wale made the true point that first week shipping numbers are tied to radio play….the gist was, he lacked a radio hit, so retailers only wanted 30k first week. label can’t push more physical units that retail buyers are interested in copping. i don’t think that gaga song popped anywhere near as big as wale hoped. even in dc, he was getting blocked by the other major urban station b/c he was affiliated with dj alizay, radio politics, you know the drill (which meant he only got half the spins he coulda gotten in his own home city)

Whoa. A bunch of typos in my Cudi post. Whatever. I’m still tired.
My excuse…

wait, was that chillin song one of those songs where people heard it all the time on the radio?
was wale just making up that ‘no radio hit = lower first week order’ thing?
who knows. i don’t work at a major label, i have no idea how any of that works.
it never seemed like chillin was one of those songs that got played to death like OMG or something

Just because he didn’t have a radio hit doesn’t mean the label just gave up on pushing Wale.
How many remixes of Pretty Girls were there?
Wale didn’t pop but it wasn’t due to lack of effort on Interscope’s part.
In comparison, 50 got no love for BISD. I thought “Baby By Me” was shitty, but that single got more push then anything else on the album, including “Do You Think About Me”, which I thought had a good video concept & was a more mature look. Plus, considering how public his beef with his baby mom’s was, I thought it woulda got more burn.
Interscope prolly leaked the album a month in advance, just to ensure it didn’t do huge first week numbers.

====================
But it got played enough that people who had no idea who Wale was were becoming annoyed with him.

Yeah, like that really happened. You 50 stans are delusional. BISD flopped because THE FANS were tired of 50′s bullshit, tired of the immature beefs, the redundant rhymes, the lack of hunger in his music after GRODT, the recycled concepts about bitches, money, guns and moving weight.
Interscope wanted him to fail my black ass!
