Jay-Z’s Decoded Song List Revealed

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Ok, so alot of these are pretty good choices for “decoding”. Who wouldn’t like to hear the stories behind “Early This Morning” and “Coming of Age”, or the inspiration for some of the lines in “PSA” or “Moment of Clarity”? But WHAT DO YOU MEAN no “You Must Love Me”?! What’s the point of even doing the book if you’re not gonna break down that song? Then again, I guess if we’re being realistic, how deep is Jay really going to get into anything that may have happened to inspire this music.

Sean Garrett ft. J. Cole – Feel Love

Friday, October 29th, 2010

So the story behind this track is that Lil Wayne and Drake had a session that ultimately fell into the wrong hands, somehow Drake’s verse from the beat session ended up on a song Sean Garrett had done, which leaked, but wasn’t official. Now he’s re-releasing it as a single to his album, but since the unauthorized Drake verse probably couldn’t get cleared, the new version features Roc Nation labelmate J. Cole.

Kool G Rap ft. Nas – Fast Life (Buckwild Remix)

Friday, October 29th, 2010

In anticipation of his upcoming project with Celph Titled, Nineteen Ninety Now, Buckwild is dropping a 9 song vinyl EP called Buckwild Presents… that includes some unreleased remixes, including this revision of G Rap and Nozir’s “Fast Life”.

Robbie quotes Buckwild speaking about this version:

“I worked on this somewhat later then I should have. Even though I did the album version and it was the single, Salaam’s remix was chosen before I even turned this in. I was going to use it on the white label, but went with the Nas and AZ songs instead”.

I initially ignored this in my inbox because I figured it was that same old remix of “Fast Life” that has been floating around forever, commonly mislabeled as a “Buckwild” remix (it’s actually Salaam Remi’s version).
Either way, imo none of these really improve on the over the top flashiness of the original Buckwild beat and how it fit with what G and Gnaz were rapping about.

Video: The Verse That Killed DJ Evil Dee’s Rap Career

Friday, October 29th, 2010

Wow this is great. In this supplement clip to Gasface’s New York Minute documentary mini-series, Buckshot explains how Black Moon originally consisted of himself, 5ft, an MC named Finsta and DJ Evil Dee, who also spit at the time. So he pulls a video out the stash of them laying down some bars circa 1990 and we get to hear the verse that prompted the rest of the crew to suggest to Dee that he stick to making beats. Tell me young Buckshot’s verse wasn’t crazy though.
