Video: Lloyd Banks on Chelsea Lately

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

Banks promotes HFM2, dropping 11/23.

Who’s in charge of that record label?.. Oh that’s funny.

50 pulling Chelsea easily offsets all that time with DeAndre.

Video: Kanye On “Flashing Lights” vs. “Runaway”

Thursday, October 21st, 2010

“I think there’s a lot of similarity in this and ‘Flashing Lights’ ” West told MTV News on Wednesday after a limited Manhattan screening of Runaway. ‘Flashing Lights’ is my favorite piece of work that I’ve done. The pacing, people are always like, ‘Where is the rest of it?’ But we didn’t have the time or whatever or the money to do the rest of it. But I might do the rest of it, the beginning and the end. Two years from now, I might give you the whole ‘Flashing Lights’ video, put ‘I Wonder’ in it, ‘Say You Will’ and songs that I feel like doing.”

While West didn’t draw a straight line from the conceit of “Flashing Lights” and how it relates to his life then and the premise of “Runaway” and his life now, he stressed their aesthetic similarities, including the dark establishing shot of “Flashing Lights” and the opaque opening of “Runaway.”

“Look at it graphically, how it starts,” he said of “Flashing Lights.” “With the car, the orange sky, the color palettes, the blue sky, the car pulling up with the orange headlights. And just the beautiful women, taking the Helmut Newton type photo and bringing it to real life and crashing it against Jim Henson and George Lucas type whimsy and taking, like, a [Federico] Fellini, [Stanley] Kubrick pacing and a very graphic novel/ comic book type setup on all the shots. There’s a lot of shots that are borderline illegal for a film student. It just breaks rules, because I have absolutely no idea what I’m doing.”

Outlines ft. The RZA – Visions

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

For this week’s installment of #WuWednesdays, Prince Rakeem drops a feature he did for a group called Outlines.

Says him:

Message
“No man is a true believer unless he desireth for his brother that which he desireth for himself.” Muhammad

Song
This weeks song is entitled “Visions”. Its by a group called Outlines, featuring me. The song is about world peace thru us taking individual responsibility for our actions and us helping save to others once we have saved ourselves.

Being out here in China and seeing the growth of our culture in their world and seeing how their culture influenced my world led me to choose this song. We all so much on the same path as individuals only separated by language and custom and location. And the negative forces that strive to keep us apart by fabricating false images of each other. Well the RZA and Outlines have a vision for a better world.

The Outlines are a group out France whom I’m co producing. You will be hearing more from them. Peace!

J Period & Black Thought Present The Live Mixtape: Illadelp Edition

Wednesday, October 20th, 2010

Black Thought is the ultimate “emcee.” Ask anybody who is a fan of hip hop and chances are they will note that this man embodies what a true emcee is. Usually one to sneak under the radar when the “best of all time” talk comes up, Black Thought is not one to tell you how good he is, make videos about it, and then rap more about it. Instead, he presents his raw skills, his talent, and his words. All of it speaks for itself. A large piece of the puzzle that is The Roots, Black Thought’s words inspire, but never expire. Transcend, but never depend. Thought provoke, but never choke. In true poetic form, Tariq Trotter is the silent assassin with a knack for attacking the microphone in just about anyway. With his variety of spot on on-stage impressions and raw energy, Black Thought was more than a worthy candidate to be the headlining act for Manifesto 2010, alongside DJ J Period. Together, they presented their Live Mixtape: Illadelph Edition.
