Jim Jones & Cam’ron – Toast Freestyle

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Here’s the MP3 of the “Runaway” freestyle where Cam fires off a few shots at Kanye, on behalf of Dame. Quality is less than favorable, but you get the idea. Still unsure why Cam is still standing up for Dame when Dame is a grown man and is doing his own thing now.

Another thing, this didn’t surprise me so much considering where Jim’s career is at right now, but did Cam really need to start burning bridges at this stage of the game? This seems like a complete waste to me… we need less freestyles like this one and more songs like this.

Kanye West Covers XXL (October 2010)

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Something noteworthy about Kanye’s October 2010 XXL cover story:

The Louis Vuitton Don penned the cover story on himself—his first article ever—and also served as the creative director of his own 40-page section in the special collector’s issue.

Here are a few quotes from the piece, regarding Taylorgate:

“I stress that the incident wasn’t about Taylor personally,” he explains in the story. “And it definitely wasn’t about race. Where I messed up is, at the end of the day, it’s your show, Taylor. It’s your show, MTV.”

“The relationship with the public and with your fans is like the relationship with your girlfriend,” he adds. “How could I not, at a certain point, be like, ‘I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have been at the awards show. I’m sorry.’ Not that I don’t deserve to get beat up or change who I am inside, to make sure that that doesn’t happen again.”

Mr. West said that, following his VMA outburst, he immediately dedicated himself to the studio. “I knew I wasn’t in a great spot publicly after the incident, but I would just block it out and work as hard as possible and let my work be my saving grace,” he shared. “In a way, I had thrown a Molotov cocktail at my own career, and it gave me an opportunity, for the first time, to go away and find out who I was. Because I felt very alone.”

On top of that, the October issue with also feature stories on Kid Cudi, Ye’s G.O.O.D. Music family, Wiz Khalifa (?)and XXL’s top 10 producers-turnt-rappers of all time.

Video: Big Boi’s Billboard Tastemakers Piece

Wednesday, September 15th, 2010

Big Boi performs a few songs for Billboard’s “Tastemakers” feature. First he does “Shutter Bug,” and after the jump, he performs “Daddy Fat Sax” and “General Patton.”

They managed to catch up with Big Boi while in New York promoting the album on what he joked was his Grammy hustle. For the latest installment of the Tastemakers video series, he brought along DJ Cutmaster Swift ad he himself threw down a 3-song set of “Left Foot” tunes full of freestyling, whip and lasso his mic cord moves and ad-hoc photo snapping with our neighbors, the cast of MTV’s “The Hills.”

Billboard has more from the encounter with Big Boi & Cutmaster Swift.
