See, nigga like Iceberg fuck up this whole conversation. I’m making valid points, not even stanning. Like a real discussion and in this fool walk in with his autographed Roc-A-Wear headband -mind you that hes never washed- that Jay threw in the crowd at the 2001 VMA’s.

D Block, you’re missing the whole point. The question is, how will people ever know he took someone else’s line…? How is that credit given to the original writer…?
^
Ok, so if you had it your way no rapper should ever use another great’s, great line? It just shouldn’t be done? Or let it be done and we call said rapper a jacker and leave it at that?

Who cares. Cos I dont.
Im just telling you what the inevitable outcome is. And that is that everyone will think Jay wrote them rhymes. *shrugs* Is that a good thing…? No, not in my eyes, but like I said when I first commented, THIS SHIT HAPPENS. Its not Jay’s fault per se, its just the way history will write it.
I see your view. But ask Grandmaster Caz if he’s feeling the fact everyone thinks Big Bank Hank invented that flow. It may be a different perspective.
Thats all Im saying.

I think Jay was the 1st person to quote an MCs rhyme WORD for WORD though..
When Biggie swiped Biz’s rhyme, he changed up all the words, just had the flow
Jay definitely brought the “quoting” thing into the game. Before that, you’d just scratch in the actual rhyme or suttin…

^You have a point. It’s not like he can put (c) Biggie behind every line. I don’t think Jay is trying to steal, but it’s still kinda crazy that alot of Jay’s most famous lines are actually just quotes from other artists.

@ Rigz
I completely understand what you’re saying and you’re probably right. But, i just don’t like the way niggas implicate deception. It is what is and it will be what it will be.

If you say another man’s rhyme WORD FOR WORD, yes, you jacked the line.
Theres no way around that. Referencing a rhyme is different.
