Big L gave Jay his biggest appearence on wax in 95. the next year Reasonable Doubt is out. I know Rocafella was on the verge of signing L before he died, but i’ve never heard Jay give him a shout. Maybe once.

I understand what you’re saying, but in a way, when you use a rappers lines, you’re kind of biggin up and keeping his legacy alive. And while time passes and new generations are ushered in, they might think they’re Jays lines, but does that mean no rapper could ever use another greats line in attempt to big him up because the generation after may think those lines are his?

D Block, you’re missing the whole point. The question is, how will people ever know he took someone else’s line…? How is that credit given to the original writer…?

I get both views. But the truth is, most people wont give credit where it is really due, because theyre oblivious to the fact it is even a “quote” from another MC.
