The thing about college is, if you know how to work the system, college is a great place to go.
But niggas like me, whose parents didn’t go to college learned the hard way. I first went to NYU, taking out stupid ridiculous loans to cover tution, until the loans couldn’t even cover the costs, then I transfered to St. John’s which was cheaper when I started, but by the end was the same price as NYU. Now I’m stuck with about 90k in loans that I have to repay.
So I taught my younger brother. Go to a small school, St. Francis, get your education without having to take out any loans, graduate near the top of you class, apply for grad school and have schools offer you money to attend their institution so taht when you graduate, you won’t have to pay back shit, all your money is your money

High School did very little to prepare me for college.
^Cosign. I struggled like a mofo my first 2 years. I was on academic probation after my FIRST semester. And being that I was straight off the streets of B’more it was hard to fraternize with whites (my college was predominately white) because I had never been around so many in a scholastic capacity. Trying to study with Blacks was even more fucked up because their study habits and grades wasn’t that much better than mine.
My last 2 years I was older with more life experienced. Learned how to use being around non-Black people to my advantage. Gained some tips, shortcuts, and cheated my fuckin’ ass off.

College is good for networking and building relationships. It also looks good on paper. If you happen to find something you are interested in then so be it. Loans area huge problem, I was fortunate to realize my senior year of HS I could actually get a scholarship hoopin’ and that was my ticket to a free education. I had no desire to fuckin’ play in the NBA. I wanted that degree and be out. But if you know what u wanna do off bat, save your money, invest in what u wanna do and go after it.

My college experience mostly proved that I had more life experience than my peers, could pontificate and convey opinions better than most, and that I knew how to manipulate my actual talent (gab) into somethin’ that is more important than the books and papers themselves: communication. I didn’t have the military travel experiences so I didn’t know how to chop it up with those outside of my race, at first. I didn’t go to any good schools prior to college that emphasized study habits. I was a $12K/year DUMMY for the system. And I learned that from my non-Black counterparts whom I befriended. Thank God I didn’t decide to stay in an HBCU, which I clearly didn’t need since I was raised in the “Black experience” all my life.
