^I’m with you on that totally. The only problem is the number one rapper at present is a former officer of the law so this year I’ve finally come to terms with taking rap for purely entertainment value only.

the swizz hate has reached an insane level when people are saying they’d rather hear rza’s off key screaming of the hook than swizz’s version. smh.
i mighta rather heard a rza verse than pusha’s. he sounded like a kid coming on after jay murked it.
the kid cyhi had some nice wordplay with the valentines/may/”found out about april so she decided to march” bit. points for the abernathy reference, although adding rosa parks muddled it a bit (some idiot is going to think they were a couple now).

EXACTLY.
Ye, Jay, and Pusha all had great verses, but Kanye’s was the best by far. I don’t know how people are putting Jay’s verse ahead of Pushas or Ye’s.
The only reason Kanye didn’t impress as much is because people have heard that verse for a year. But last year people here were going nuts over that So Appalled snippet.
My opinion:
Ye>Pusha>Jay>Others
September 25th, 2010 at 10:15 am
This song is dope. I feel like a couple more Ye verses in place of the other guys not doing anything would be better. Ye, Jay, and Pusha, were all talking about the disconnect they have with the masses and where they came up from with different tones. Ye’s verse didn’t just have quotables like Jay’s and Pusha’s, it had REALLY good imagery.
And whoever said Nas could kill this I agree with.

Ye’s gonna have the best produced rap album of the year. Better than Teflon Don.
It might not be the 4th classic he wants to make, but it’ll be as good as Graduation was in 2007. A dope ass mainstream rap record, and easily the one people have listened to the most by the following year. 3 Classic and 2 near classics sounds pretty good.

^ After “Heard Em Say” (one of my GOAT tracks from him) I knew he wasn’t gonna be the same MC anymore with the funny metaphors, slick lyrics, etc. He focused more on big production after that album. But his sole (soul) purpose of gettin’ into the game initially was to prove that he CAN rap. Word to that battle with Common.

I have a feeling that’s what’s gonna happen. I imagine Ye’s got versions of Monster and So Appalled where it’s just him on the track with more verses.
He’s just releasing the typical all-star remix before the album version. Also both of these songs with Jay on them might make the joint EP they’re doing.

——————————————-
I think this stuff is true with a lot of big name rappers in the last decade.
Ye will always have a bad rap voice and has only recently improved on how well he can rhyme words that don’t perfectly rhyme [like on this song and Monster]. But can spazz on a beat as far as bars go.
He just chooses to write songs first, even if he sacrifices his ability to write good punchlines or great rhymes. Sometimes dope lines and rhymes get in the way of writing a good, moving, and insightful song. Only a handful of guys like Nas can do both. That’s why Ye’s guest verses have more quotables than his songs.
And it’s worked for him better than what Jada’s done. Jada’s dope as far as rhymes and punchlines go, and his deliver is dope even if it’s limited. But who has the better discography, him or Ye? Who’s got more classics, and who actually has blockbuster albums that heads and casual fans love?
September 25th, 2010 at 10:51 am
Lil Wayne releases like 80 finished/unfinished songs a year and has a bunch of guest verses as well, but a good 30% of the songs are dope and a few of the guest verses are.
I’s not that hard to imagine if he lowered his output and actually only used good lines he’d be a respected punchline rapper to go along with his completely unique and show stealing personality and delivery.
But he might not have been as popular that way. Better to jump on as many songs as possible and know that your flow and persona will get you noticed even if you use it to say almost nothing. It worked for him.

For me CD and LR are both classic in every sense of hip hops standards. I think a lot of people agree with me on this.
Where I differ is that I have 808s as his third classic. Not only was it a wild experiment that turned out to be a great success but it’s probably gonna be THE most important record to come out in the second half of the 00s in in hip hop just through influence.
Graduation had nice beats, was cohesive, and had some songs that were good lyrically but overall it was just a really good pop-rap album IMO. No really moving songs but probably the most listened to rap record of 07-Jun08 and for good reason. I think his new album will be as good as Graduation and in the same way.
To each his own of course.

I think you’re right, 808′s has had an influence on beats and making a lot of rappers think they can sing. I personally think the album is average at best.

College Dropout is my favorite album from Kanye. I don’t like Workout Plan. Plain and simple. Breathe in Out isn’t great but it’s still decent. The skits are pretty good so they don’t bother me. I could still listen to it today.
LR is alright, but I ended up skipping more tracks and skits on it. That Brandy song, Celebration, and Hey Mama immediately come to mind. Plus, nothing on this one touched Get Em High, Spaceship, or Two Words, IMO. The highs on CD or higher than LR’s to me.

There’s a level of smugness to it but I think that “Fuck niggas, bitches too…” line is so revealing. The isolation of success, the way he’s basically had to shit on everyone who he came up with to make it to this point…there’s a loneliness there. A pain that seeps through the arrogance & bravado. If only Jay were able to explore those feelings. Cause unlike Drake, Hov has lived & experienced what the Canadian kid raps about.

But he’s still dancing, afraid to show any real vulnerability or cracks in his armor.
That’s what separates Nas & Jay.
Nas admitted he lost his first fight. He’s always been able to show his humanity through his work.

Between Gaga, Eminem and the Black Eyed Peas they have 3 of maybe the top 5 most popular musicians on the planet. Gaga is easily #1, Em’s got the highest selling album this year and his first two singes are both #1 hits. And the BEP don’t have any new music out this year but just last year they dominated the singles charts/radio.
Interscope’s doing fine I think. Labels like Island Def Jam have a lot more artists but how many of those aretists can even sell 100k in today’s climate.

Interscope’s right to let em go to Koch. Def Jam just keeps guys like them and fails. Not to mention forcing those guys to make watered down records, think of Jada’s last record. O even Ghostface’s Rap n B record…which reminds me of Fabolous.

Treating the rap game like a *sport*, Hov is easily GOAT. I don’t know if he was ever the biggest rapper in the world but he was always one of the biggest. Who else has a big hit and a dope album almost every year?

September 25th, 2010 at 5:43 pm
Cypher really does have a point. Ye has not been on his old level for about 2 years now. TBH, as a Ye stan (not like Rey and Seth), he’s been decreasing in quality in everything from the beats to the lyrics.
It seems like the further he whitens himself (I said it) the weaker his shit becomes. The tighter the clothing and designers he pick, the worst his beats get. He hasn’t put out anything of quality and greatness since he stopped fucking with sistas. I know I sound crazy, but it’s true.
Sure, he could get artist together that wouldn’t have worked together if I wasn’t for him, but he has a way of fucking up the concept by putting some industry fuck boy (Swizz, Charlie Wilson, Bieber, etc.) on the track as well.
September 25th, 2010 at 5:44 pm

” Niggas is bugging. ”
smh.
^^
I mean, the beats crazy. You have three of the best rappers of the past 10-15 years constructing verses like they’re hungry. What more do you want? Is Swizz’s part that offensive to you? All the complaints I’ve heard about the song sound like vague nitpicking. But whatever.
September 25th, 2010 at 6:04 pm
But all jokes aside do you think this is a good song because the song is good. Or becasue it has all the ingredients to be a good song?
=========================================
Both.
The setup was perfect and it didn’t disappoint.
In fact, cats almost overachieved.
Touches like having Swizz & RZA on the intro/outro, the darkness of the instrumental…
It read like an event on paper & it sounded like one.
What more do you want?
September 25th, 2010 at 6:06 pm
You overly manly bastard (nh)….
^
beside saying he has no father is this really an insult?.. at least put the nh in caps
^
No I’m saying this because niggas like FBM are so homo-phobic to the point where they apparently don’t chill with niggas (NH)….
^
You said the nigga is OVERLY manly
overly – to an excessive degree
manly – refers to having the quality to being a man
SO when you say a nigga is overly manly as an insult I can only think one of two things.. either you meant it as a compliment and you were actually trying to flirt with FBM or you find a man being called manly as a insult.

Nah, I just think the standards have changed.
What made kids go bonkers in the 90′s is different from what makes them wet their skinny jeans today.
But the vibe & the energy is similar.
Somebody can get robbed to this song. The menace is there even if the message is prolly more high brow and the energy is more subdued then what came out in the 90′s in respects to posse tracks.

I know one thing i dislike about this song is its to long… for the beat to be so repetitive.
Maybe they should have cut that Cyhi verse out….
Note : Kanye you dont need to have 40 niggas on every song.. and 40 more just to play each key on the piano.. less is more
September 25th, 2010 at 6:50 pm
By the way, what was the last Kanye production that was a hit? As in a song he did for someone else.
Don’t worry, I’ll wait…

Cam could’ve blown his name a bit with a good showing on one of these Friday tracks, that’s why.
Fucking with Vado and putting out mixtapes and street singles has put in a spot where the streets are always fucking with him, but one of these could have given him that extra push.
Ye’s like the Quentin Tarantino of this shit
Cam = Travolta in Pulp Fiction
RZA = Robert Forester in Jackie Brown
Jay = Bruce Willis in Pulp Fiction (always around and doing shit, but people forgot that he can occasionally spaz)

I think Blu maybe one of those creative, I-got-a-million-ideas-but-I-never-focus-on-one dudes. I wish he just do another record Exile, and liberate his spacebar key.
Having said that, I think he should get more attention considering he actually has a legitimate fire album under his belt yet Electronica seems to get more love.

And those bars came directly after the civil rights, Abernathy, Rosa Parks lines so the March has a double meaning as well.

Fans of Cam’ron protégé Vado have been eagerly anticipating the young Harlem rapper’s solo mixtape, Slime Flu for the last few months. However, at the last minute, plans for the project have taken an unexpected turn. Originally scheduled to drop online for free download, the disc will now be hitting store shelves early next month, courtesy of E1 Records. XXLMag.com recently chopped it up with the former Show & Prove candidate to find out about the change of heart.
According to Vado, the tape built a big enough demand that the labels started to make offers. “Everybody goin’ crazy for it,” he said. “I been always skeptical with the project ’cause I didn’t really know when I wanted to put it out… [Cam and I] was comin’ out with the Gangsta Grillz: Boss of all Bosses…so it just built a buzz and anticipation for it so [labels] started reachin’.”
Although fans will have to cough up some coins to purchase the project, Vado says he will be dropping enough free songs leading up to its release that people won’t feel short-changed. “I’m leakin’ an original song every week, every Monday,” he explained. “I’m damn near givin’ y’all a mixtape. By time the [CD] drop I’m givin’ y’all bout at least 10 unreleased songs.”
The street album—Vado says he doesn’t consider it his proper debut—will feature 16 original tracks, with cameos from mentor Cam’ron (included on two cuts), partner-in-rhyme Jae Millz and newcomer Meek Mill.
Slime Flu hits stores on October 12
