Cudi also talked his issues with fellow 2009 XXL Freshman Wale. The D.C. rhymer recent took a lyrical swap at Cudi on his “Thank You Freestyle,” saying “Throwin’ ’round wallets like the dude that Kid Cudi hit.” He assured Complex that the rhyme meant nothing to him, and that Wale is just “a simple-ass rapper.” (Complex)
“It wasn’t a shot, it’s just a simple-ass rhyme by a simple-ass rapper,” he said. “You can’t let that shit faze you. That’s one of those raps that just shows the world that you wack. Why would you even use that as a metaphor? Everybody think they Hov. Niggas ain’t got the magic like they think they do; there’s only a couple of wizards in this game. I’m a wizard and I know it. Kanye would probably be OK if he decided to be all gay and shit. I really don’t see what would change. He’s already crossed the flaming line a buncha times. And being gay is the new black, si?

I always viewed Jay as a somewhat insecure person. Always had to have the features, the Timbo and Neptunes singles, the “baddest bitch in the game”. You could tell those Nas disses affected him. Nas barely flinches when he receives shots (no). He responds out of annoyance that someone would dare send shots at the throne, be it 50, Jay, Cormega, whoever. Jay is afraid of what rappers will say if he responds and creates an all out war, be it with Cam, Jimmy, Beanie. He waits for the beef to subside then sends subliminals.

I think this is all true. You are both right.
Both them dudes insecure. That’s why Nas responded with emotional disses (you gay, you ugly) and Jay responded with facts (or at least what a lot of people were thinking) cuz that made him feel better about himself probably and tried to solidify that “GOAT” status he wants. Cuz even though everyone was wondering what Nas was doing, they still respected him a lot.
and I also think that they both benefited immensely from that beef. It was no longer about BIG after that… it was about them and still is.
and part of me thinks that Jay wanted this to happen the way it did or planned it and possibly Nas too…

^^^
Hell nah, Illmatic is Nasir’s albatross… His cross to carry, if you will. By creating a perfect album out of the gate, he put himself in a position that he HAD to live up to that standard.
Camel on the other hand had his “classic” album status given after releasing a large portion of Bullshit up til Blueprint. Blueprint gave him the classic status he desired, and made people go back into his catalogue and realize the Reasonable Doubt was the best of the shit he put out, giving that cd Classic status.

In that context, they both do the same in their music… Jay says ” I show you how to do this son”, Nas says “You got that from me’”. You can still put in like 3-4 Nas albums and enjoy. People are really giving Jay too much credit because how big of a status he has. He’s good but not like you people make him out to be.

“kick his ball over the fence / to let niggas know whose yard is this”
“J to the muah / I’m bout to son Kiss like a soda”
“Kick ya ass, strip ya ass, whip ya ass ’til ya mommy come / then leave it up to Hov to X out Tommy Buns”

Not the same thing. Fans got it fucked up with that “First album= classic” shit/mentality. T.I’s classic albums would be Trap Muzik and King, and he would probably say the same thing himself.
The biggest thing with the RD getting classic status later is that it wasn’t hailed as classic out the gate– it was essentially ignored by both NY hip-hop and the world at large. Illmatic received 5 on The Source (when it mattered) and Bigs Ready to Die got a 4 1/2 (and went 2x platinum) solidifying his work on a national scale. Shawn was the nigga Big was rapping about in “Going Back to Cali”- Almost gold, Rocking to tri-State getting 5 gs a show date. It wasn’t until Big died (and Hard Knock Life) dropped that people started paying attention– this was also when Shawn started reminding people about Reasonable Doubt. Nas NEVER had to tell you Illmatic was classic, nor did Big have to tell you RTD was classic.

I don’t understand the degree of hate that the community seems to bear for Wale. Do the people who go out of their way to take shots at him at every opportunity actually have a semblance of what his music even is?
It all seems like hypocrisy to me that on the one hand we have people crying about how rappers stay making music about the same ‘ol shit; and on the other we have these same people taking the piss at Wale every other minute.
I mean, has no one listened to ‘Shades’, or ‘Rather Be With You’? Or that Tiger Woods track he dropped recently. Mixtape about Nothing?
He makes a concerted effort to at least ATTEMPT to put a different spin on things, right from his diction to his metaphors and similes.

It’s easier that that. Wale is the epitome of an industry creation. Kenny Burns backed him in the beginning in order to “blow up” a DC rapper, so they stole a bunch of Northeast Groovers records and hit the radio. The eff OUTTA here.
No way BP2 is better then Stillmatic. Bloated, way more room for error, way more chances to repeat ones self.
BP2 was ambitious conceptually…it just can’t fuck with Nas’ level of creativity.
Cause songs like Meet The Parents, Dreams, Guns & Roses are responses to the kinda gems Nasir served up on Stillmatic. They just can’t stand up to 2nd Childhood or Remind or One Mic.

Stillmatic > Blueprint
BP2 > Stillmatic
==============
^^^
@plug: *daps* You made me go back and look, like damn, maybe I’m getting old,lol
and Amps right. BP2 was Shawn attempting to show people how much he had “grown” as an artist and sustain the critical acclaim he achieved via BP1 (prior to that, Shawn relied on his sales to sustain any argument about him being one of the greats). BP2 started off fucked with Dreams, and by the time Lenny Kravitz showed, up, you knew he was done…

Land, I can agree with you to an extent, but the concepts ruined that album. Plus, Lenny Kravitz, my nigga? You KNEW he was reaching, and the way BP2 came off solidified this way of thinking… like, that nigga couldn’t understand WHY people liked Nas more than him… That whole album sounded like a reach, like he had something to prove to everybody else but HIMSELF, and the (supposed) GOAT should NEVER have to prove to himself that he’s dope.

There’s like 12 songs per cd? Not counting the Intro on CD 1, BIG Interlude, and Playa Hater (which I always assumed was a skit), you basically have two eps of Big setting the blueprint (see what I did there) that EVERY east coast artist has followed since- The street shit, the Rnb Feature, the song for the west coast, the story track, etc. All the songs fit the concept of the record, and reflected the artists life so accurately, especially when played from beginning to end. The one song I would take off is that Lil Kim joint…

Cassidy Ft. Nas & Quan- Can’t Fade Me( Off Da Hustla album)
And no, I didn’t google it; I actually like the song.
=================================
Quan kilt the hook
“Tricky…”
He coulda been a decent artist but Nas has no idea how to run a label or really guide one of his protege’s to success.
He’s given niggas a spark but ultimately it’s always been on the artist to get their own career really going.

Dza is a fuckin’ beast. I once refused to listen to his music because the name itself was rather odd and it seemed like a mock of the Wu. But after hearin’ his verse on “Nothin But Us” with Spitta, I downloaded George Kush… which is arguably Top 3 album/mixtape of the year so far. I played it religiously up until about a few days ago.
Also, I think his flow works for him because of his voice. He doesn’t have a unique or baritone voice so he has to add impact by being precise and thorough. His voice alone doesn’t command an audience so he has to make up for it. This is somethin’ that I was tellin’ Joe88 when he first started submitting music. Voice is just as, if not more, important. That’s why me and one of my homies agreed that Juelz Santana has one of the best voices for rap, and possibly Top 5. For someone not to be a big person, he has a powerful voice and doesn’t need to emphasize a wordier flow.

^ Cosign those sentiments. KRIT is nassssssty with the beats. Definitely underrated. That clip of him and 9th Wonder had 9th reevaluating his whole game plan… and possibly his life. Krit Wuz Here has better beats than 9th’s whole catalog with the exception of “Threats” and “The Last Two”. Dza dropped a gem on that tape with that Thomas Jefferson skit too. I googled it and that’s EXACTLY what Thomas Jefferson said, word for word.

None of the ones they (G-Unit) has leaked is on his record. The Justice League track was an e-mail hack– we’ll be hearing that again with Jerimihah on the hook.

‘See Me Bright’ has been Banks illest leak. The beat on the justice league leak is crazy but the hook is really bad, but i think the hook is being sung over by an R&B artist. ‘King/do my thing’ is hard too.
September 19th, 2010 at 12:29 pm
I’m excited for what Banks has in store with his upcoming LP. I mean, with these leaks, how couldn’t one be? (II)
