I dig Masspike Miles hooks, but I just can’t listen to a Termanology song with Bun B. I just can’t.

  3. b-ease Says:

I really don’t think the list is that bad considering. I mean, yea, I disagree with some of the rankings, but as far as pop culture forces in the past 60 or so years, I think they got everybody.

  4. b-ease Says:

    Everybody except R.Kelly that is.

  5. b-ease Says:

Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis should be on the list just because.

    ^^
Those dudes are absolute geniuses, but they’re songwriters/producers, not artists.

  6. Plug Says:

I still think they should have mentions mozart or beethoven on that list.

  7. Tong Po Flo Says:

Men lie. women lie. numbers dont. why cats gettin made because sade is at the bottom. She only has 5 nice songs. yall should be happy she on the list at all. and I focks wit sade but lets keep it real. she just dropped an album that was super trash. it was one tolerable song.

^ fuckin’ lies throughout this comment

  8. b-ease Says:

but OVERALL.. to the WORLD.. you cant go everywhere talkin about aretha… you can with madonna…

    ^^
But you CAN go anywhere in the world, sing the first part of the “Respect” hook, and watch somebody finish it. That’s top ten most important songs in pop music history. And not only was it about a woman demanding respect for her man, but also for charge for the Civil Rights Movement. It’s more important that any single song Madonna has even attempted to make. That is all.

  9. b-ease Says:

why cats gettin made because sade is at the bottom

    ^^
I’m not, I think she’s about where she belongs on the list. And I’m definitely a fan.

and fuck it someone gotta get bumped for janet..

A Keys im lookin at you babygirl…

^Shit, I’d pick Beyonce. I know that’s probably blasphemous but a portion of her hits DID happen during the Destiny Child’s days. Afterward it just seemed that all her singles were the same record over and over again.

  33. Tweezy Says:

    Canada? Wtf?

  34. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

With pop singers like Britney, Madonna, Beyonce, Rihanna, Justin, you don’t just account for their singing, you account for their ability to get the best work out of the best producers and to actually set trends in the pop landscape. Those artists do just that even if they don’t do it through their actual singing. Madonna was amazing and really only started falling off in the last 8 years or so.

  40. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

An actually good list would probably have a lot of producers involved. Like Brian Eno, Dr Dre, Rick Rubin.

Those guys may not have been in the spotlight but they were major players in a lot of great music by different artists in different eras and sometimes different genres of music.

The truly great producers like the truly great pop singers stay relevant for decades at a time. And unlike the singers they do it on their own. Unlike great rock bands they remain *relevant* not just remain *popular* like the Rolling Stones have. There’s a difference.

  41. Remixznflow Says:

Voting was conducted by Shugoll Research. The list was determined by a poll of musicians and music experts. Over 200 artists voted including Alicia Keys, Diddy, Ozzy Osbourne and Carrie Underwood, as well as members of U2, the Police, Metallica and Aerosmith.

    ^
this was at the bottom of the list…

One, white folks love Madonna. Two, her performance at the VMAs that year in the wedding dress singing “Like a Virgin”, and her video with the Black Jesus are two cultural lighting rods that Janet just never had. Janet was a huge star, and made classic music, but a game changer on par with Madonna? I can’t cosign that.

Tragedy did a good job exec producing War Report, because other that Capone Bone (WTF), everything is dope and has stood the test of time. That CD sounds just as fresh as it did when it first came out, while Illmatic and The Infamous, not so much, and thats a credit to Trag and the producers.

Doesn’t take away from their greatness, but it does speak volumes on how much music has progressed (or regressed, depending on your opinion) since the 80s era, the early 90s, the Shiny Suit Era, and the eventual southern era we are currently dealing with now.

    ^ Agreed. But pop/electronica-influenced 80′s hits > rap 85 – 90.

^all that music is mixed up for me. i don’t know where hiphop ends and shit like the sos band begins. its like trying to pick out different ingredients in gumbo.

^I was thinking the same thing as a I typed it because it was definitely some bars being spit on some songs, but just wasn’t considered as rap songs back then. But for the sake of differences, I’d definitely would pick the pop singles over traditional rap songs during that 5-year period.

I mean, it’s like, say Illmatic dropped today. Wouldnt you think it sounded a little “off” (for lack of a better word). The thing is, if War Report, or It Was Written, Life After Death, or even Blueprint dropped today, I dont think I would have that reaction.

Hell, if any of these neo-acoustic niggas (or crackers) dropped Stevie’s Fufillingness First Finale tomorrow, I think it would win an Album of the Year Grammy.,

be specific…? What lines r dated? And isn’t that kinda what makes it great? That vintage flow that’ll take u back to early 90′s? “timeless” music is great, but it just shows u how immersed Nas was in that culture of NY back in early 90′s…Watch “KIDS” or listen to “Illmatic” and u get a sense…fuck that..u get a damn blueprint of what NY was like then….

.just my thoughts…LF: fat boy next to me got buffalo wings for lunch…shit is pungent.

I love all types of music, but real rap, hiphop from 94 to 98 >>>>>>

That era was so dope, cats consider it the “real” version of the musical form, even tho history has proven it was kind of an abberation.

    ^
i swear it was the perfect mix… of everything… it was the height of the genre in my opinion.. you “could” even extend that to 2001.. but thats neither here no there…

i usually chalk that up to my growth as a human being though.. .those were my teenage years.. so of course those years are gonna be special to me… ask a teen from the 2003-2008 years and they would say the same i gather…

Or, I’m wrong, and Phuque sold the rights to the site to him, considering the name still isn’t available. Fuck it.

She never said, “Hey, leave him alone, it’s over” or anything close to it.

    ^^
Why would she have done that tho? I mean, if somebody did what Ye did to her (even tho I think it was ALL orchestrated), why would you EVER come to his defense. And I think his apology on Twitter was a little unessessary. He should let these ridiculously dope GOOD Fridays leaks speak for themselves.

    ^^^^

I understand why she wouldn’t, but in the context of using what happened for promotion, she sure as shit didn’t have a problem being painted as the biggest caucasian victim bitch since motherfucking Jennifer Aniston.

Whatever, I get it, but the shit still isn’t right.

    Cosign the GOOD Music leaks.

@ JihaD– I’m choosing to believe the twitter rampage Saturday morning was sincere. Naive? Maybe. I still say it was sincere.

Anybody remember the name of this indie movie about 2 spanish kids (brothers) growing up in the projects? (no DBlock/Tribe)

Showtime or HBO used to show it a lot.

^ The reason for this, is because Nas turned a corner with that album, it was the leading out of an era into a new, that got people saying it sounds dated… And you’re partially correct, but more importantly it was instrumental in laying the ground work for what was to come… If you really peep that album, It captured a certain landscape that was pertinent at the time, but it ushered in some next level ish at the same time. Those other albums not so much.

I can too. Except for Halftime. I think that track suffers much more than the others.

^memory lane is divinely inspired. ny state of mind is incredible but all that running through the projects shooting stuff sounds real theatrical now that i’m grown. half time i just skip.

the war report brings me back to the dark streets of that time, everytime i hear it. and yes capone bone is the only thing that takes me out of the zone. i would pick hell on earth out of mobbs records before the infamous.

    explain? mainly, the freemason part.

another LF: When I was in NYC in July visiting friends, we went up in foot locker and these two employees start having a very aggressive (almost-scripted) convo about the freemason/jay z rumors..it was the most basic convo ever…im sitting there thinking “man, nah spoils me…” cuz i had just read all of the nah free mason rants/theories just days prior…and needless to say, these foot locker employees ain’t dug that deep…they were just talkin basics. then again, prob best they didnt really “Go in” cuz there were white ppl present trying on Asics and Sauconys
