Von Pea – The Yorker

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Tanya Morgan’s Von Pea is about to release his debut solo album “Pea’s Gotta Have It” (no relation) on October 12th. Von explains the concept of the album:

For Pea’s Gotta Have It, Von Pea reminisces of his days spent in the classrooms and at the lunch tables at Boys & Girls High School in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. “My solo album is basically the album I always wanted to make in high school,” explains Von, who was inspired to make the album after discovering a long-forgotten journal. “It’s a concept album based around high school, around what I thought my album would sound like when I was 17,” explains Von. “In a way, it’s a goal I’m achieving late. It’s music inspired by my coming of age in Brooklyn.”.

Looking forward to this, cause that’s probably Von Pea’s forte when it comes to verses. Check out a track below.

PICS: Lemon Andersen x Rik Cordero’s “Welcome To The Imperial” Stills

Wednesday, August 18th, 2010

Our friend Rik Cordero got together with legendary NYC spoken word artist Lemon Andersen (“Inside Man,” ABSOLUT Brooklyn) to collaborate on this viral spot while they were both busy working on basketball oriented projects, most notably, Rik is working on a feature documentary with Nike. But they created this piece, which is like a love letter to NYC, with their own resources and no commercial ties, and have decided to release it at the height of NY’s basketball fever.

“Welcome To The Imperial” is a 1-minute viral video from spoken word poet/actor Lemon Andersen and Queens-bred filmmaker Rik Cordero to the millions of New York City basketball fans. It features a mixture of iconic New York City sights and faces seamlessly combined with the richness of Lemon’s poetry. In essence, the Big Apple exerts a powerful influence over those who live here and those who play here. Welcome To The Imperial…

We’ll be premiering the piece on Nah Right tomorrow. Check out some stills below.
