I doubt accomplished rappers really look at Nicki and thinks she’s complete shit. She’s has a weird style but in the grand scheme of things she has some crazy mic presence, especially for a female.
Nas and Method Man both went on record as saying they loved Wayne. Prodigy had Wayne on his GOAT rappers list. Jay’s a fan based on his biting of Wayne on certain songs.
Rappers who have gotten famous know the mic presence it takes to hit big for more than one hit. So they definitely know that when they see it in Wayne or Nicki.

I know Kanye delved into that kind of stuff on his earlier albums [and sort of touched on it later too]. “Things we buy to cover up what’s inside” and whatnot.
I think from a perspective that applies to more hip hop fans than the actual hip hop musicians, rap [just like rock at it's peak] has always had a penchant for championing trash culture and even turning it into art. Pop music, pop culture, and pop art as a whole have a tendency towards taking either mundane or low class, trashy things in life and elevating them into art [usually in a postmodern sense]. On the surface rappers look and act trashy, but sometimes the material they cover is deep or at least cleverly put together. No different from what Tarantino does with his films except pretentious kids don’t really go for mainstream rap like they do Tarantino films.

A kid one year below me crowd surfed about ten times and ended up getting thrown off the edge of the stage straight onto his back. I completely lost my voice from screaming all the lyrics but it was so worth it.
