  1. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

Recovery is having Taylor Swift longevity on the charts. It’ll still be selling 8,000 a week next year. Watch.

The record as a means of storing music is dead.

  2. AmpGeez a.k.a. Smoke Greene Says:

Raheem from Juice is Maino’s brother?

    And he’s tey ghey?

    ^
in this context does record = album? if so, then i 1) sigh. 2) smh. 3) agree.

also, Lebron screwed Cleveland as well by never agreeing to anything remotely long term.

  4. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

    Yeah, it means album.

People can talk about piracy killing the record industry all they want, but Itunes was the worst. It turned albums into collections of songs you could buy on your own, and actually hurt sales and the album as an art form. And piracy hasn’t gotten less popular.

  5. Black Says:

Gibbs seems like the anger he has for alotta the lame shit goin on in music is genuine, for that i can relate.

This. If i was an artist i would rather my whole album leak than 5 songs. If half the album is on the internet out of sequence then it really detracts from the experience.

  7. Bricktop Says:

yeah, i said it before and i’ll say it again: music piracy was around way before Kazaa. 90 min Maxell tapes w/ dual cassette decks anyone?

  8. Vincent Van Dro Says:

If i was an artist i would rather my whole album leak than 5 songs.

    ^^

that’s them leaking those 5 tracks though, full album is the pirates.

  9. Bricktop Says:

Pink Floyd’s ‘Darkside of the Moon’ = definition of a complete ALBUM.

Fucked up shit is the label is usually the ones responsible for the leaks.

  11. Vincent Van Dro Says:

    Everything is cyclical …

albums are dying, singles are winning = old school

commercials are dying, product placements are winning = super old school

    adapt or die

    ^
yeah, i’m just not a fan of this part of the cycle. it seems to really distract from the overall quality of the artform.

Yep. Almost all progressive rock albums are like that, from my experience.

I have never understood the love of this, all that reverb-y “helllooo” shit seems pause-worthy to me.

Definitely agree with the part about the singles vs. albums. Albums sales only got huge from the 60s onward. Now it’s going back to what it was like in the 50s and early to mid 60s, and before.

Didn’t know that about product placement being big before, though. I thought that was new.

  17. kevfrescura de talco Says:

The thing is tho he’s the type of nigga who is gonna be interesting because of the drama he will get into.

    ^

yep! an if he backs it up(n) in rhyme&reason that’ll be even more interesting.

  18. Vincent Van Dro Says:

@RNC I Love Lucy used to pump cigarettes during the actual episodes.

Watch music videos these days, T.I. being all Campari’d out, BEP pumping Tuborg. The only way to make a decent video these days.

  19. RNC Chairman Michael Steele Says:

Pink Floyd are an overrated band, but DSOTM was pretty good by my estimation.

But yeah, I like Zeppelin more. Zeppelin II through Physical Graffiti are must haves for any fan.

I see. That’s interesting stuff. I need to watch more old shows, this kind of stuff is what interests me.

You seriously enjoy listening to the Wall the whole way through? Records too long with a lot of throwaway tracks and a cliched concept IMO. To each his own though, I’ve always found it to be overrated.

Jimmy Page was always fascinated by prog rock like Floyd and Genesis did, but Robert Plant hated it and would never let the band veer in that direction. Page ended up dabbling in that stuff after Zeppelin broke up, but nothing serious.

I’ve always though Sep’s Achilles Last Stand sounded like a song Rush would make, though.

Str8 Killa, No Filler is dope.

A no tags version would be better but I guess that’s what the EP is for.

I haven’t had time to check for it yet. His interview was crazy though. I’mma give dude a shot. I ain’t mad at his opinion on Ross.

On a sidenote, I just caught that video of the crips approaching waka flocka flame on the video set and that shit is HILARIOUS!

YOU AIN’T NO BOSS BITCH! Ol police-ass nigga!

  37. hl Says:

“Rap’s so fucking watered down right now, you can be a motherfucking C.O., you can kiss a nigga, and as long as you making good music, these niggas don’t give a fuck.” – Gibbs

You would think he would take that as a cue to make some good music.

  38. kevfrescura de talco Says:

    ight, thx hI.

jus DL’d it but while doin so, i watched the ‘national anthem’ vid.

dudes a lil bit above average IMO to be out of gary, IND. an that song, sound like what a nappy roots song would sound like if they weren’t, well, corny. also my opinion. i can definitely say i NEVER gave dude one listen til now, but yea, he aint no slouch. i mean, CH puts in work but nothin about his persona is worth my time. i have no interest in pink lava lamps and sonic the hedgehog. also, if he was down w/iovines team for a sec, it shows that he could hang w/cashis and hot rod. those dudes are nice but their in label limbo. now gibbs is gettin his work in and i aint seen a hot rod/cashis post in a while. #kanyeshrug

I’m surprised that u guys don’t like the Gibbs tape… I just listened to it twice… Shit Knocks!!! It’s a very good mixtape… I don’t label shit a classic unless it stands the test of time, where I can go back months from now and play it straight through… but of the mixtapes I’ve listened to this year, it’s right near the top… And he definitely gets the nod of approval being that he isn’t a phony nigga! I look at it like this… If you support an MC who lies like that in his records, what does that say about you???? Not every MC is a fraud… There are still many MC’s that haven’t been exposed like that. Most of them legends, but there are a few new school cats who rep like they are suppose to….
