I’m not sure if you were talking about the convo I was in, but if you are I don’t remember anyone saying anything about the Beatles.
I said in the 90s Radiohead provided a sonic template for more popular bands in the 00s, and compared that to Dinosaur Jr, and Sonic Youth, among other 80s alt rock acts.
The Beatles and the other British Invasion rock acts provided the sonic template for the next 40-50 years of rock. Much more important. They took just enough ‘black’ out of rock to take it to a different era commercially and artistically.

lol. God invented heroin for the sole purpose of killing the Stones. it didn’t work.
seriously though, the Beatles were “officially” a band for eight years (’62-’70), but for all practical purposes, they were broken up by ’68. they just had so much completed material that they kept on releasing albums until 1970.

For now this is true as far as pop music history goes….but if you look at the current music scene that already ain’t true. And in a few years rock in general wont have much of a *direct* influence on any music that isn’t rock. And rock is in a rut now, no matter what the indie scene suggests.

Elvis always struck me as a lot like Eminem in hip hop. He was sincere about making the music the way blacks did it, and despite what many say he really tried to give them credit and embrace the culture. He was just one guy saddled with a huge burden of introducing the music, even if he was definitely not the first of his kind.
The Beatles and other BritInvasion guys are a lot like Kanye/Drake type. They are fans of the music and write good songs, but something about them was out of touch with the culture. They did their own thing however, and will probably end up being the guys who changed the aesthetic of popular hip hop for a while.
Trust, 808s will be considered an important record 20 years from now, even if the autot-pain sound is dead. Rappers bitch more than ever now.

but the Beatles still has enough “black” in there to make the music good.
Elvis shit sounds like black music without the black and with any soul. Horrible shit. I hate Elvis
but the Beatles embraced the Black in there to an extent and whitened it up just enough for appeal while, seemingly, keeping some of what makes soulful music.

I like you and think you have a good grasp of music, but I completely disagree with this. And I know I’m not the only one. The British Invasion is largely responsible for removing a lot of the rhythm in rock, and replacing it with the influence of ‘I think they’re called skiffle bands’ from British popular music. The Stones were the exception to that, but the Beatles started the British Invasion.

I believe the Beatles were for everyone and to this day the impact is still alive. Each of their best albums are different from each other and even to this day real fans each have a different alltime favorite album. Eh even though in these last ten years they have once again been used as a marketing tool for bullshit purposes they still remain relevant when it comes to Pop Culture and to people who refuse to accept the current state of Pop after the 2000′s. Plus maybe in America the Beatle mania is becoming less influential and people rather hear with Katy Perry or Gucci Mane (most likely know of their existence but fail to know a single song) but remember the other countries in this world still stan for them as if they were still together.
And SMH at Beezy…

Nixon would have been dealing with Elvis well past his prime, in the late60s early 70s. That’s like Eminem NOW, where he’s widely accepted. People said he made the devils music when he came out, and called him all sorts of things.
And seriously, The Beatles when they came out seemed like a safer alternative to the more Rhythm-influenced bands of before. They were media darlings by all accounts. I don’t know about the goverment, but mainstream media loved the Beatles and John Lennon facing a backlash over comments doesn’t really change that. Kanye’s faced a few backlashes, haha.

When Elvis arrived on the scene they said he was performing ‘Nigger Music’ and tried to boycott the radio stations that played his songs. When the Beatles arrived Rock music was already a part of the mainstream.
