What Em Did Was Silly

Eminem’s Recovery moved 741,000 units according to Billboard. This will be his 6th straight #1 album.

“Recovery’s” debut week sales surpasses the first week of Eminem’s last set, “Relapse,” which began at No. 1 in 2009 with 608,000. It also beats the opening of 2005′s “Curtain Call: The Hits” which entered at No. 1 with 441,000 in 2005.

Eminem’s new album also wows digitally, as downloads made up 255,000 of its first week. That’s the second-biggest digital week for an album in history. Only Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends” notched a larger frame, when it debuted with 288,000 downloads in the summer of 2008.

So this guy sells more digital downloads than most rappers can give away for free. Fucking awesome.

No, it proves that white people, especially those that were in high school when he first dropped, still really really love Eminem. He’s got an insanely loyal fanbase. No hate, just facts.

^white people stay loyal to their artists (c) rolling stones, beatles, eric clapton.

    black people are highly fickle.

  17. Rey Says:

    Good for Em.

  18. Mr.Londoner Says:

Em is one of the last artists that released an album before the internets shit went crazy so makes sense he’s still got loyal fans.. Marshal Mathers was the first album i bought

I think that leak fucked over drake, I didn’t hear much about an eminem leake

  20. Johnny Cadelco Says:

Ok, I’d like to know what other white dude or dudes besides Eminem sold at least 500-700k first week?

And I’m not talking only hip-hop (could rock, anything). I’m curious.

The only one I can think of is Coldplay.

  21. Johnny Cadelco Says:

I forgot to say – sold that much in the last 5 years

Siiigh…sure blame white people. Are these the same white people who helped Wayne/Ye/50 do these type of numbers?

Face it. It was a great album. It was promoted well. It was anticipated. And it sold accordingly.

  23. vcsom Says:

man the white boys love this white boy!

    yes.

  25. bri Says:

Im a black girl(click the link) & i bought the fucking album. Been an Eminem fan since I was old enough to understand what he was talkin about. Thats the difference between Em & everybody else, he doesnt have to have a “hot summer” or a “club anthem” to sell records. He’s got the most loyal fans on the planet, period. F.Y.I., this is not only the highest debut of the year, but the highest debut since AC/DC dropped an album in 08.

  26. Brother Man Says:

Cant jiggy with this. The album was wack. Ems been wack since after the Marshall Mathers Lp. Singing in a high pitch, and rapping real fast is all he does now. Yuck

  27. Mike Says:

Lil Wayne did better in 08′ he did a mill in a week.

^Rascal Flats has done it twice in the past 5 years.. 722K april 06 and 547K sept 07

  29. prophecy_projectz Says:

Good for him, but if this was a year where every hip hop act was doing reasonablyu well, I’d be more happy. As it stands him and Drake are the only ones doing well.

I’d probably be more happy if The Roots, Kweli/Hi-Tek, Ghost/Meth/Rae, Nas/Jr Gong pushed like at least 120k at least first week.

Right now, the industry is still fucked up and and a couple of dudes eating dont mean everyone’s job is saved.
