Drake feat. Young Jeezy – Unforgettable

drake-thank-me-later-nahright

DJ Self played the Aaliyah-sampling joint last night, here’s the CDQ.

Although, this is an unfinished/unmastered version. Boi-1da reworked the drums on the final album version. That’s why it knocked more when Drake & 40 played the album version’s instrumental on Ustream.

    Jamaica declares emergency

Gunmen fired on two police stations and threw firebombs at another

Jamaica’s government has declared a state of emergency in parts of its capital Kingston after shooting and firebomb attacks on police stations by suspected supporters of an alleged drug lord who faces extradition to the US.

The emergency, which went into effect at 23:00 GMT on Sunday, covers the West Kingston and St Andrew districts of the capital where gunmen fired on two police stations and threw firebombs at another.

The attackers were suspected supporters of Christopher “Dudus” Coke who the government is seeking under a US extradition request.

At least one policeman was injured.

Streets into the Tivoli Gardens area of West Kingston, where Coke is believed to be, were barricaded, witnesses said.

Suspected Coke supporters have turned the Tivoli Gardens into a virtual fortress [Reuters]
Police have called the barricades, which supporters have used to transform the area into a virtual fortress, an “act of cowardice” and urged Coke to turn himself in.

Tensions in Jamaica rose over the last week after Bruce Golding, the prime minister, reversed his long-standing refusal to extradite Coke to the US on drugs and arms-trafficking charges.

US prosecutors describe Coke as the leader of the “Shower Posse” that murdered hundreds of people by showering them with bullets during the cocaine wars of the 1980s.

Relations between Jamaica and the US grew strained when Jamaica ignored an earlier extradition request for Coke, who is a supporter of the ruling Jamaica Labour party and wields influence in the volatile inner city constituency that Golding represents.

Dude has craaazy pull all over Jamaica and in the US. He inherited everything from his pops, alias Jim Brown. He was going to be extradited on similar charges in the early 90′s. They managed to arrest him without this hooplah though. He died in a “mysterious fire” that broke out in his jail cell while awaiting extradition. That was the Govt’s way of getting rid of him before he could testify and probably reveal all the governments ties to the criminal underworld.

    ——————————————————

Honestly bro, the gangsta thing is getting out of fashion faster and faster these days. Yeah, in the mainstream it’s getting replaced by younger suburban guys like Drake, or guys like Wayne whose subject matter exists only to serve his flow and his word play.

But I’m almost certain that if I made an effort I’d find guys who do the grown man rap thing.

Nah, that ain’t that. But when someone like Nas speak on some shit that you see has a content and was born through some real situation or reflection, you see it’s something different from what other rappers do.

I see Jay has the potential to reach something like that, but I don’t see him engaged in any of that shit … I’m looking forward to his next album and that might be another situation, but right now I see him rapping on emotionless songs with some different vibe to it.

I’m of the view that music as a whole is as good as it ever was, and that quality doesn’t really go down in pop music ever.

^ no one really spitting that grown man rap, cept for maybe Jay and Nas. And by grown man doesn’t mean you’re 30 plus rapping. Im talking about grown man ish, real issues, real life… the coke rap, I’m a pimp, or I will murder rap, doesn’t quite do it for me anymore.

    ^^

Maybe its just me, but I don’t need “grown man rap”– None of this niggas rapping (Nas or Shawn) are actually going thru any of the issues I (and probably yourself have), so that shit rings hollow to me. Conversly, someone like Kanye or some of the more “progressive hipster rappers” (who has a ton of self-made and personal perception problems) seems phony when they whine about “how bad their life is.” I guess I just still crave dope beats and gutter rhymes– I’d rather listen to old G-Unit/Mobb Deep/ Big, etc than new Nas or Shawn for example– just because I feel like I am actually being entertained rather than having someone with an over-inflated sense of self trying to tell me how to live my life… But I do see what your saying.

Real rap. I think music as a whole has just become uninteresting to me. There is seriously too much music to actually listen to, and this watering down and desire to “feed the streets” makes it next to impossible to actually make coherent judgements on CDs, mixtapes, etc. This just makes it harder to find something “new” or something that speaks to me on a personal level, which just makes these “everyman rappers” seem fake as fuck to me, like they aren’t having fun doing what they actually want to do….

T-Pain is underrated as hell, as a songwriter. If e didn’t kill him on his own shit Thr33 Ringz would have gotten some recognition for T-Pain’s unique songwriting. Guys don’t take clowns seriously, even if they’re talented clowns. Some clever idea’s in there.

    @Cypher: My bad, haha.

rap is diverse and accessible enough, that “grown man rap” has its place…a lot of us are in our 30s or approaching, and don’t need to hear some 11th grader talking about “teach me how to dougie” (none)…dafuck? We grew up on hip hop, watched the genre grow with us (none), and mirror our lives for so long, we’re not ready to give it up, and listen to adult contemporary R&B on an exclusive basis, just yet…

    ^^

I’m saying, but what does Nasir or Shawn have to say that could appeal to someone like me, a grown man (I’m 28), when their day-to-day is not even REMOTELY like mine? I can’t afford a Breitling Watch (the “right watch” as Shawn would say) nor do I care what’s going on in Africa, as I have worries like Tuition payments for my children, a pregnant wife with twins, Bills to pay, etc. Their day to day is much different than mines, and I would rather have them express themselves artistically in a manner that is entertaining than to try to be on some “grown man shit.” TBH, thats what turned me off on BP3– On one hand, Shawn is essentially throwing everything he has accomplished in the listeners face, even though the LISTENER provided him with the opportunity to be successful, then on the other hand chastising his audience for not doing as well as he is. A lot of these niggas have no actual appeal to me, especially when they try to kick knowledge– how the fuck is a high school dropout gonna try to kick knowledge to a nigga with a degree from Morehouse? I don’t give a fuck how many books these niggas read, because I read the same ones. Thats why I just have a hard time appreciating these niggas trying to kick that knowledge or grown man shit… But whatever, to each his own.
