I gotta say I don’t think Nate Dogg, 50 Cent, or anyone else for that matter sounds as good as Drake does singing a hook. He has that voice that just works for hooks. 50 made some utterly average beats on GRODT into great songs, which is why it hold up better than Games albums [which had some rare bad hooks by 50]. Drake’s doing that too. This Boi-1da is shit aside from like 2-3 beats. Drake’s carrying him. And Drake sounds best over those sparse 808s style beats that ‘40′ does. Add a couple of verses and “Fall For Your Type” would be good enough to make So Far Gone.

Out of all my homies… I can say that while the bullshit was going on I always took classes here and there, a course here and there. And thats the only reason why I have a good well paying gig today. The beats on this Busta and the Drake song are mixtape-caliber. Even Cam’ron would turn them down…not really though.

That said, it must be said that Drake’s singing is killer. Guy’s already in contention for best hook singer in rap history. He just better not spread himself too thin…

I gotta say I don’t think Nate Dogg, 50 Cent, or anyone else for that matter sounds as good as Drake does singing a hook. He has that voice that just works for hooks. 50 made some utterly average beats on GRODT into great songs, which is why it hold up better than Games albums [which had some rare bad hooks by 50]. Drake’s doing that too. This Boi-1da is shit aside from like 2-3 beats. Drake’s carrying him. And Drake sounds best over those sparse 808s style beats that ‘40′ does. Add a couple of verses and “Fall For Your Type” would be good enough to make So Far Gone.

On the other hand I imagine his low-key almost breathy singing style doesn’t work live when he has to speak up, but that’s beside the point.

To each his own I guess. Judging hooks is more subjective than a lot of other things in rap. Then again, numbers don’t lie in those cases.

Isn’t Church for thugs the Just Blaze one? I don’t remember it having a 50 hook. Same with Higher, that was Game I think. Game can’t do hooks well, IMO he doesn’t have the voice or the ability.

How We Do, Westside Story, and Hate It or Love It were the ones that popped to mind. It’s kind of accepted and almost expected that rap hooks that are sung shouldn’t be sung “well” [Drake also does a good job of not singing "too well"], but the pitch problems those three are too much. I didn’t know he wrote the hooks for those two songs…I heard about the controversy about that though. Yeah, like I said earlier, Game doesn’t have the voice to do well. The best hook singers don’t sing too well, but have a distinctive quality to their voices that sounds good- Game doesn’t have that.
