Audio: Royce Da 5’9″ Says Slaughterhouse/Shady Deal Is One Week Away

Wednesday, April 28th, 2010

Royce called up On-Air Idiots to promote Bar Exam 3, dropping 5/31.

When asked for an update on Slaughterhouse signing to Shady, he says they’re gonna officially announce it “within a week or so.”

He says the deal came about when Royce reached out to Paul last year, coincidentally around the same time that Eminem discovered the Slaughterhouse album. Since Em isn’t web-savvy, Royce says the album was what made him familiar with Crook, Joell & Joey.

He also speaks on Guru’s passing, why he leads off most SH songs, and more.

From a recent interview with Complex:

Complex: Got it. You were involved a robbery recently where the alleged assailant took a picture that popped up on the Internet with him wearing your chain. Did that bother you?

Waka Flocka Flame: I don’t feel like they took it. Taking it is snatching that joint off my neck. They ain’t do that.

Complex: Do those types of videos and pictures seem silly to you?

Waka Flocka Flame: No, it don’t matter to me. I like it.

Complex: It doesn’t discourage you from rocking your chain?

Waka Flocka Flame: Hell nah. I just copped a new chain. You ever heard of Fozzie Bear from Muppet Babies, that says, “Waka waka waka waka”? I got that. That’s my new shit. Got a lil yellow Fuzzy with the yellow watch green, and shit.

I was just waiting for a picture to pop up. That is all.

Back in the 90s, “beat tapes” were literally that: cassette tapes of beats that a producer made either for himself, friends, or potential collaborators. Madlib made a bunch of them in the days between his early productions for the Alkaholiks (circa ’92) and the release of his Quasimoto album (2000), after which he took a couple of years off of the beats to focus on making jazz music before beginning a new era of hip-hop with Madvillain, Jaylib and Beat Konducta.

Madlib Medicine Show #5: The History of the Loop Digga will be released on CD, digital and a deluxe 3LP format. The deluxe 3LP set includes 34 minutes of vocal & instrumental material not available on the CD or digital release, and one-of-a-kind individually screened covers by Hit+Run. The artwork is by Benjamin Marra who has created a comic book for the album about the fictional 90s-era Rapper X who goes on a vengeful cop-killing rampage. The comic is included with the CD.
