but this song has Yeezy DNA all over it.
April 29th, 2010 at 1:26 am
he really will be a more prolific songwriter/rnb artist than rapper.
April 29th, 2010 at 1:26 am
What do y’all expect? That’s what made Drake famous in the first place…going from R&B pop like tracks like Best I Ever Had & Sucessful…and then straight up rapping on Money 2 Blow…and 4 My Town. We will see the rap singles later but thats the marketing strategy. More woman buy CD’s than males…so with these singles he has to get at the females the most…then once the CD gets released the straight up rap singles will get released …I heard they already shot a video for “Miss Me” before wayne went to the pen
April 29th, 2010 at 1:27 am

April 29th, 2010 at 1:44 am
@Leekss
I mean when you say he lost substance, does it mean that he’s not raping about the struggle to find success in the game and balancing fame and fortune, because if thats the case if you fastforward to now, he inked a major deal and now has the means of living out that “stunting” lifestyle , I mean I guess you can say when all successful rappers start out they always seem more hungry like they gotta work for every second of your time, but when they make it big there’s nothing they haven’t coverd, but then again thats why he’s singing about mushy shit.

“Bottles on me, long as someone drink it
Never drop the ball, fuck are y’all thinkin’?
Makin’ sure the Young Money ship is never sinkin’
‘Bout to set it off, set it off, Jada Pinkett
I shouldn’t’ve drove, tell me how I’m gettin’ home
You too fine to be layin’ down in bed alone
I could teach you how to speak my language, Rosetta Stone
I swear this life is like the sweetest thing I’ve ever known
‘Bout to go Thriller Mike Jackson on these niggas
All I need’s a fucking red jacket with some zippers
Super good smiddoke, a package of the swishers
I did it overnight, it couldn’t happen any quicker
Y’all know them? Well, fuck it, me either
But point the biggest skeptic out, I’ll make him a believer
It wouldn’t be the first time I done it, throwin’ hundreds
When I should be throwin’ ones, bitch, I run it”
–One of the LAMEST verses in rap history. Sweet flow, but gtfo if you think that shit is a hot verse. Same thing as Wayne 85% of the time. LAME ASS verse. SWEET flow to make it sound good. Thats why rap music sucks dick today. Don’t get me wrong, Drake has talent. But as long as he is on this Hip-Pop Cool shit, he isn’t getting any credit from a real Hip-Hop head.

There isn’t anymore “Be yourself in Hip-Hop”. it’s more like, Do what makes the most money. And I can’t always blame the artist because you have to eat. But damn, this shit is getting old. I swear techno/house soon are going to take over as the dominate genre in music because rappers have NO NUTS anymore. I mean some do, but the ones that are real don’t get the exposure because we’re too busy getting all the way turnt up while we stanky leg the whole music business. the way cole incorporates his melodies into his tunes is how it should be done. drakes puttin himself in that weird flo-rida type space. you can’t even say he’s a 808 carbon cause kanye sucks at singing hence the overuse of flange and auto tune. drakes voice doesn’t require that so this jawn here is definitely pop/r&b.

Em’s single is toilet paper.
I’m tired of the same drum beat. The same drum beat that you can find 5 times on every album.
I’m tired of every rapper turning into Ja Rule. Is this what 50 ran Ja Rule out the game for so every rapper can start singing.
I would rather have Ja Rule singing than every rapper in the game thinking they can sing.

I don’t know about this … Lose Yourself requires some level of commitment I don’t see in most rappers today, so, at least for me, that level of respect for what he does dates from way back when he started it.
But I can see what sleep what saying … I definitely didn’t took this dude serious when I heard Without Me. But, as I’d come to find out later, he recorded Stan before Without Me so even at that time he already had that commitment.

April 29th, 2010 at 8:31 am
Nothin’ can stop and nothin’ can change it
you better just make new living arrangements,
if you think your the top and king of the castle
You about to get thrown off the throne and ripped a new asshole
All I hear is, I’m best at this an I’m best at that,
but I don’t hear my name No man brought up in rap
and I don’t usually trip or dare get caught up in that
but when they say one of the best, I’m nowhere thought of as that
Not even the same league as Jay-Z
Nas, Pac, Biggie or maybe they’ll name me
Somewhere down at the bottom right after AZ
or say “he ripped that Biggie verse or that Jay-Z
Yo, his verses were crazy on that Renegade beat
but I ain’t never bought no whole CD of Shady
And I all I hear is pop tunes come on the rad-i-o
And they play ‘em 20 times in a row daily”
And that very well may be the same reason they don’t say me
when they speak on hip-hop legends which has amazed me
Cause I thought the formula was to hit mainstream
and make it big-big-big-big-b-baby
April 29th, 2010 at 8:31 am

The eminem song is decent, chorus was shaky at first but after another listen it’s not bad, but the bridge is cringeworthy.
Eminem is one of the greatest, but no honest-to-god Classic albums. Although the rapping he does on some of the tracks on Eminem show almost make you want to give him extra points, but nah.
This drake song isn’t hate-a-thon worthy, but it’s simply not that good and kanye would have never used that beat for himself.

DX: In the later years of their life, what would Guru and Solar do with their free time, especially since they were removed from the Hip Hop industry?
Tasha Denham: Guru’s day-to-day basis was basically business all day and studio in night. He had to fit in time to see his son. There were times when he’d want to go to Boston to see his family – his mother was ailing as well, as his father’s getting up there in age, and Solar would tell him he couldn’t go because he needed to be in the studio. Yet, Solar, during the day, I’d talk to him on the phone, and he’d be laying out in the sun, tanning. Or he’d be working out in the gym.

LOL… never mind Drake, I’m already looking at this as a precursor to what Ye’s album might sound like. That’s assuming this isn’t an 808s leftover and was produced when Drake went to Hawaii to work with Kanye.

————————————————–
It sounds more lush and layered than any song on 808s. 808s was really minimalist for the most part, just two or three elements to a beat. Not to mention, while Cudi might get 808s leftovers [Sky Might Fall], someone like Drake [and maybe a hand full of others] is probably going to get the best beats Ye won’t put on his new album.
If Ye’s new album has this kind of production I won’t mind at all. I can imagine a song like this with Drake just singing the hook and Kanye rapping being really great.

Houstatlantavegas comes to mind…a lot of the emo songs are more about alienated fame [No Yeezy...actually Yes Yeezy] with lines about girls mixed in. Successful, Lust For Life, basically the songs produced by 40. Also there was that leak “Fall For Your Type” that was good. Drake’s good singing over those 808s-lite kind of beats.
Off Topic: He CAN rap well if he avoids trying to overdo his corny punchlines and wordplay, Say What’s Real was great [over Say You Will beat] in this regard.

Hip-Hop is rapping. Rapping consists of rhyming in iambic pentameter in a tone equal to or more aggressive/louder than your normal speaking voice.
KiD CuDi’s album is a grey area, like Nelly but without the HERRE and the weird puberty voice cracks.
But just cuz a song has a girl singing on the hook or is “poppy” (again, pop = popular–it’s the music bidniss, remember) or the subject matter isn’t hardcore drug dealing or 5 element stuff doesn’t mean said song is NOT hip-hop.

@ oh4werd: He might not have changed it that way many would like…but he’s definitely had an effect. You could see it when rappers started trying to do what Wayne did with his flow. Rappers trying to be weird for the sake of it now, etc.
Not to mention mixtapes are a much bigger part of rappers promoting themselves now- he’s had a bigger effect on this than 50 did earlier in the decade IMO. This is big, since now rappers who want to carefully plan out and write their shit are at a disadvantage because it’s harder for them to put out a lot of music all the time. Personality rappers, or guys who have great, reliable delivery are at an advantage because they can just crank out freestyles and songs at will.

There was definitely a cornball factor, but I was never mad at it. When he dropped (summer 2000) there was a dearth of pop rap acts that you could just sorta enjoy.. Everything else was way harder (nh).. Plus, there were no crossover rap acts besides Eminem, and it could be argued that he never “crossed over”, he was just instantly accepted by Whhhhite America.. i know very well who juggalos are. all i’m trying to say is that i can gurantee that those same fans will be buying em’s album, but they’ve probably never copped an album from jay, nas, etc.
i have nothing against em at all, he’s the dopest white boy to do it (pause). i just think most of the stannery is unwaranted and sometimes he comes off as overrated (recently)
at the on a career level though, he’s questionable goat with what he’s had to overcome. that and his lyrical skill is unmatched by anyone who’s moved as many units as he has.

XXL Freshman alum B.o.B. is set to debut atop The Billboard 200 next week. Industry insiders hitsdailydouble.com projects that the Grand Hustle rapper’s first album, The Adventures of Bobby Ray, will sell between 80,000 and 85,000 units based off the disc’s one-day sales.

Not too shabby, much better than Wale…but I actually expected more. Number One singles are still way more important than mixtape buzz, and yet he’s doing Gucci numbers, and worse than Kudi [who didn't have a number one hit, although a big hit nonetheless].

And maybe it’s just me but Em’s rhyming/delivery is starting to fall off. Between his guest on that BoB song and the slight drop off he had with the Drop the World guest [which was still great] I’m starting to think Em isn’t as good with rhymes and flow when he talks serious. And that wasb’t always the case, The Eminem Show [and his first two LP's as well] had a boatload of serious songs with GREAT rhymes and lines.

***It was acually like a consortium, of like 9 people, who formed “the Rottiserie League”….one guy came up with the concept, the rest of them helped fine-tune it, and get it running, by paying $300 bucks to buy in, and back then, they held auctions on draft day to pick up players or make trades during the season- in the beginning, they made loot from conventions, and in 1983, they had like 100,000 paying members in their league, but they really didn’t cash in on what came to be the biggest deal in fantasy sports, fantasy football….their league is still alive, though, and they make enough off of memberships and transactions, that they’re all able to work on it full time- when the league first started, they were all editors at major magazines…

Crack A Bottle had higher aspirations and failed miserably.
I haven’t liked Em’s first singles in general so We Made You was no surprise.

Re: Crack A Bottle vs We Made You..
Both missed the mark by about 5 years, but Relapse was a decent album IMO, just a dark, dark concept album with Em going with what was comfortable before getting the rust out. Even still, there weren’t any fart joke songs on Relapse, and for that I was grateful.
Forever, Drop The World, Airplanes, and that Despicable freestyle all shows us that Em is back and can hang with anybody. You can’t hate on dude for trying to have an actual topic to each verse, even if it’s weird. I can’t deal with these non-linear rappers. I mean, I enjoy the Wu’s music, but danged if I know what the fuck Ghostface is talking about, and Redman is a legend, but everything I’ve heard from him is just him rhyming words that rhyme with no real point.
My point is, sometimes it’s gonna come across as corny or weird or whatever, but Em’s trying to have real, legit points to his raps, not just “foghorn leghorn with an acorn” shit.
