Man, to add to my earlier stream of consciousness, where is Ness? He was probably the most overall talented member of Da Band in terms of a combination of both talent and focus. Some of those other cats had star power potential but they couldn’t get their minds right.

No shots, but I knew Da Band was destined for failure because in a band, a few of ya’ll at least gotta play instruments for it to be legitimately called a band.

Fred and Choppa could’ve made it, and Dylan too. Actually, that squad had potential to be basically the Young Money of the year 2000.

since BIG died and Mase retired…Puff hasn’t really pushed a rapper on Badboy…he just put out these Danity Kane broads out and a couple other pop groups…but for the most part the only artist that gonna get serious promotion is Puff with his albums….

and for its worth Dylan has gotten a few post on this site….i don’t know if you can REALLY call that relevant but i don’t think Ness who is signed to Badboy can say as much

Remember, when Da Band was trying to pop, Lumidee had a hot single out, and Sean Paul was at the top. At the time, Dylan could’ve been on a lot of features. The problem with Dylan was that he got arrogant and was unfocused. He probably wouldn’t have been major out the gate by himself, but as part of a group, the collectively could have made it. Fred really could’ve been okay by himself.

What I didn’t understand was, you got people who would kill to have that opportunity. Joe 88, B-Ease, and you and GW provide a steady flow of music, without having world class facilities and one of the greatest hip hop executive producers of all time guiding you. These cats had the world in their hands and through fighting, ignorance, and laziness blew a once in a lifetime opportunity. I’d like to be proven wrong…somebody tell me Babs got a degree and is making 60K a year at a biotechnology firm. I’d love to hear that. But if that’s not the case, I know that they gotta be mad that they blew that chance.

As far as Ness, he still ghostwriting for Diddy and dropping mixtapes in Philly. He was on Meek’s last mixtape, so he’s definitely being heard in the Tri-State area. Real talk, a deal offer from Puff is good for one thing: getting a deal with somebody else. It may be leverage, or it may be a springboard to get you into the national consciousness. But I don’t think anybody is a “Bad Boy For Life,” other than Puff.

@JiHad: like i said, Puff’s M.O. is 1 & done unless he can milk your corpse. you can’t honestly believe that Puffy just happens to be the single most unluckiest label exec in the history of music. every single one of his artists fails or dies after working with him. every one. FTR death is a failure. it takes talent to find and decide to work with THAT MANY fuckups. why is this so hard for you guys to comprehend?

Brick, the results speak for themselves, and its not like Puff is the only label exec that this shit has happened to. Lest we forget Roc-A-Fellas “roster” of artists, or Def Jam, or Elektra, or Tommy Boy, or Death Row, etc. All these niggas got GRAVEYARDS of one and done artists, or artists who have fucked up their own career, or artists who have never seen the light of day. And you can’t say Puff’s artists are failures- They all reached some level of success, but for the most part, they fucked it up or fucked it off, just like most of the artists that came out during that era. I’m not saying puff doesn’t have a nickel in that dime (my granpas favorite saying), but he gets an unusual share of the blame, when there are plenty of other execs with the same (or larger) body count.
