STS – Demand More 2 (Mixtape)
The artist formerly known as Sugar Tongue Slim caught my ear earlier this year with the sample heavy “For The Kill,” and since then has been dropping song after song leading up to this release, which is the sequel to last year’s Demand More mixtape that might have went unnoticed. Along with a Black Thought co-sign to boot, with the addition of STS to his Money Making Jam Boys out of Philly.
Keep up with Slim @ his blog or on Twitter.

Why you keep bringing up who can sing better? We’re talking artistry and who makes the best music. Jill is an incredible singer and technically better than badu, but I aint bumping her shit though.

^ There both great they just have different styles, Jill has that classic soul voice/style and Erykah is more of a Billie Holiday/Nina Simone type singing off key and whatnot. No one can deny that they both make quality quality music

LF: I have in the workings one of the best sound systems I have ever installed in the whip. Cats are bout to be sick! cats are reaaly mad because it involves no subwoofers. All words. 85% mid range sound and 15% treble. I was bending corners this morning and cats mouths dropped due to the abnormal crispness of the sounds… I was bangin Stevie Wonder “My cherie amore”… shyt sounded like Stevie was giving a concert in the whip…

I said the other day that he messed up by hating out the gate. He made some critiques recently that were on point, but nobody is gonna listen now.

and of course i do listen to her regularly … remember, i live with my woman and children, so i dont just play Royce, MOP and Charles Hamilton all damn day… the rest of my family like music of there own choosing…
all i said was that erykah badu dont have nearly the vocal skills of Scott, and niggas thats still drunk off of Badu’s walking back shots, took it out on my Jillie …

The Roots You Got me feat Jill Scott > You Got me feat Badu
And I love both of them.
March 31st, 2010 at 2:56 pm
Actually, Tavis accuses black people of being sheep who just don’t understand everytime he gets called out. And it all stems from Obama turning down an invite to Tavis’ town hall in Lousiana durig the primaries, a state Barack and already locked up. Barack called dude personally and explained why he had to be elsewhere during the crucial campaign season, but Tavis seemed like he couldn’t tolerate a black leader getting elected without his blessing. It’s messed up.
March 31st, 2010 at 2:56 pm
Tavis Smiley is a bitch. Dude be asking some questions that makes me wonder why people still come on his show.
March 31st, 2010 at 2:57 pm
Billie Holiday/Nina Simone type singing off key and whatnot.
————–
Billie Holiday was a heroin addicted alcoholic… thats why she sounded like that..
and Nina Simone was celebrated for her LYRICAL content and messages… dont act like she was revered for her vocal tone..
and Badu aint on Holliday or Simone’s level… talent or content wise…
March 31st, 2010 at 2:59 pm

March 31st, 2010 at 2:59 pm
Man, some “black leaders” only know how
to speak from the standpoint of black people being downtrodden. We sing we shall overcome, but when somebody actually does
overcome mugs don’t know how to act. Especially Jesse, that mug was on the balcony when king got killed, got blood on his shirt
March 31st, 2010 at 3:00 pm
two great women
doing great music in different lanes.
^^
I don’t think they’re in different lanes at all tho. Especially if you’re comparing their early work. I mean, Badu’s on that acid jazz mood music now, but she used to be pretty straighforward neo-soul. I can see early Erykah doing “Walk in the Park”, just like I can see Jill doing “Tyrone”.
March 31st, 2010 at 3:00 pm

fair point.
I always viewed Erykah’s lyrics, even in the Baduizm days, as being more esoteric, while Jill was more down to earth

——-
word… them chicks were direct competitors in the same lane..
and when Jill Scott raced by, Badu caught a flat…
now Jill Scott having all kinds of personal and man problems, and she like other female R&B singers before her, have had it affect her career…
