On the set of Nicki’s first single, “Massive Attack”, she tries to justify to MTV News her snub of XXL’s Freshmen ’10 list:
“Drake & I, we love XXL. We just shot for XXL. With all due respect, we felt like we kinda had graduated from the freshman class. We felt that XXL missed the mark when they didn’t put us on the cover prior to that. They have to pay for that. They can’t say, ‘Hey, get on the next one.’ But we love XXL. That’s like a hip-hop classic. So we said, ‘Can we have something just a little bit more catered to us, so that we feel like we have still grown as artists, so we’re not at all disrespecting the magazine?’ They were cool with that.”
She’s the biggest female rapper now, absolutely. But let’s be real, she knows deep down she wasn’t buzzing like that in October 2008 when they made 2009′s list.

Examples of this happening 50 Cent, Nelly and Lil Wayne although he has been in the game for a while his most recent buzz was all hype and Nicki Minaj & Drake are products of that! After Nicki Minaj & Drake official release their buzz will be FADED away! Artists are not marketed to last long in the industry anymore…no substance just theatrics and R&B hooks and placing them in the company of those who will give them attention for the moment i.e. Drake’s obsession with always mentioning Jay-z (BFF) and Niki Minaj screaming ever opportunity she gets “Thanks Jay for recommending me for the Robin Thicke song.” Having famous collaborations with already established artists for their first album release shows the lack of ability to stand on their own for the most part. Then the artists’ album sells like crazy hence they have no room for growth for their second release. These new artists are marketed as FADES quick money for the industry to make from MEDIOCRE talent! The fans get over saturated with them via radio, television, magazines and blogs and begin to rebel against what was nothing more than pure HYPE!
