Serious thought:
in about 2 years, Kanye will be able to make a legitmate claim to being the greatest MC ever. Who besides outkast started their career with an unbroken string of platinum selling classics like this, AND changed the game? 50 Cent, the gangster, cosigned Bush and did the Vitamin Water; Yeezy went in on Bush on live TV and
has people scared to invite him to award shows. Gangster rappers are chilling with socialites,
while Kanye got a bald headed chick and has white America aggy at him–and he’s still going platinum. Kanye deserves to be mentioned with Big and Pac.

I was more of a Pac fan coming up, and I stand by my statement. PAC had potential to start a movement, Ye has the same. Pac and Ye have much in common: subject matter, passion, work ethic. They’re complex minds. They have a fascination with spiritual and material. Realistically, they both came from strong women, and both have artistic childhoods. And Kanye has never put out a wack album. And I don’t think he ever will.

Naw naw, mayne. College Dropout is a classic not only on the music, but because of the impact it had. 40% of the rappers today would have had no room to breathe if TCD didn’t make room for non-jersey wearing rappers. Late Registration is sonically impeccable. Graduation is excellent execution of a celebratory concept. 808s is his “Here, My Dear.” then add the fact
that he had the vision to name his albums the way he did? It’s a movie. And, Ye has some sick, sick bars

On to LR: after you’ve dropped a multiplatinum debut album as a rapper and producer, and everybody thinks you’re arrogant, you go and get a coproducer? Jon Brion on those string arrangements was >. Sonically rich. And some of his verses stand up to some of the best of all time, including the ones on Diamonds and Gone. Who can deny Heard Em Say, Touch the Sky, Drive Slow, Gone, Bring Me Down, Diamonds and Diamonds from Sierra Leone, We Major, or Roses? And being at a wedding reception and hearing mugs scream “we want prenup” is >. LR is also classic.

It’s quite simple, when you look at the GOAT candidates, you’d better have candidates from every period, every decade of hip hop’s existence.
Some of your lists don’t even have anyone from the 80s, and no one who who got their start in the 00s.
Kanye is THE most important rapper of the decade as far as impact on hip hop, he has 3 classics [Graduation isn't]. He’d better be a GOAT candidate already, unless you really think hip hop dies in 97 or something.
This isn’t something I worry about now though, but in 15 years if he isn’t being considered than something is very wrong. It always takes a while before guys get their recognition.
People though Led Zeppelin made degenerate music and weren’t talented. How ’bout now?

Mabey because I was going to an HBCU at the time, but when Kanye said what he said I thought it was already common knowledge Bush was an idiot.
March 19th, 2010 at 4:27 pm
btw, Lil Wayne really fucked that song up… his verse was mad unprofessional… Sigel or Jay would have made that song the classic it should have been …

I’m almost in agreement with this…

Who cares? No rapper worth his salt would even give two fucks. Hiphop wouldve been chilling at the bar of the lobby of the awards show hitting on starlets until the award your nominated for gets called.

i always thought “Champion” was a slept on Kanye West joint…and “The Glory”
^
I didn’t even get around to explaining why that album is a classic, but you know.
He designed that album with fewer words
so that it could play well to stadium sized venues, ergo “stadium status.” let’s not forget everything I am, flashing lights, Barry bonds, and the singles.
And yeah, Ye was drunk. But still, he was right. And the fact that the *kanye shrug* has become part of pop culture…
Without Kanye, there’s probably no Lupe. He got peoples minds ready for that type of rap.

but would you have even gotten the chance to hear Kick Push without Touch The Sky? Even with that, Lupe only sold 55k the first week,

I can’t believe how anyone cannot have Biggie in their top 5.
Name a better album than “Ready to Die” – you can’t because it’s flawless.
March 19th, 2010 at 4:39 pm
My whole point is, if Kanye doesn’t belong in the GOAT discussion now, then he certainly will after Good Ass Job. Who has a better resume in all of hip hop four albums in? Dude has accomplished more for hip hop in his career
to date than some legends have their
entire lives. And im including what he’s done as a producer. If there was a hip hop efficiency rating which measured classic material per touch, Ye would have the highest
score. He introduced us to Lupe, John Legend, Miri-Ben Ari, and resuscitated Cons’ career. His Roc resume is legendary. What more can I say?
March 19th, 2010 at 4:40 pm
Fuck it…Imma say it: Kanye has meant more to music in the past 10 years than anyone. That’s right. Anyone (Jay-Z included). Just look at the facts:
- The Blueprint (considered classic by most) was produced — not entirely, but sonically — by Kanye
- The College Dropout was voted Album of the Decade by most objective non-hip-hop publications off pure impact alone (no album the past 10 years has had more impact on music — not just hip-hop)
- He is almost single-handly responsible for most — if not all — of the hip-hop trends since 2004 (Jay’s last trend was the button-ups and arguably the death of Cristal)
- He killed homophobia in hip-hop — and before you flood me with jokes, understand that tight jeans, bright colors, and a care for fashion are all considered gay community staples — ask why Gaga runs the industry right now? gay people.
- He is responsible for the last 4 years best hip-hop albums (arguably 5) –
Graduation (07′), Tha Carter 3 (08′ — yes, Kanye executive produced it. check the credits, The Blueprint 3, and Thank Me Later/Good Ass Job — without even hearing them yet, they both will be the biggest hip-hop releases of the year (I don’t believe Relapse 2 will come til 2011)
- He’s 4 for 4 on his albums. Not since Outkast has someone in hip-hop come close to those stats. And for the naysayers — true, 808s isn’t a hip-hop album, but it’s considered groundbreaking and birthed the sound of the current biggest star in hip-hop: Drake.
I’m just sayin…Yes, Kanye is’/will be the GOAT by time it’s said and done.

The Kanye Stanery on here is ridiculous, I swear you would think Kanye was militant like Chuck D or something the way you guys dickriding. Kanye makes incredible music, but to label him anything more than the most popular rapper in hip hop is showing that you probably one of these skinny jean wearing hip hop fans that need someone to call your hero. He the most popular rapper because his music is awesome, but his substance and lyricism does not move mountains pimp
March 19th, 2010 at 7:55 pm
reading these post confirms why i dont fuck with hiphop… just different forms of rap like reality or country rap tunes…
Kanye west = 2010 q-tip… he not even the biggest rapper right now… nigga only had1-2 summers… 808 is a bad album that took advantage of auto tunes….
he made some good/great songs… but i can never bump his albums all the way through….
March 19th, 2010 at 11:14 pm
He didn’t kill homophobia in hip hop.
He brought it to life.
I guess you see that as a good thing.
Now the gays have a direct tool to reach our urban youth.
The white man is already pumping death to ourselves on their radio stations.
I guess your to young to know Hip Hop was once used to educate black people that forgot about their greatness.
Lord knows this these last two generations forgot that being inundated with the bling and fabulous life.
Now we are telling our kids it’s cool to be gay.
Yet they say the gay isn’t spreading.
The shit is spreading like AIDS.
When the kids born this decade 15 years from now consider themselves Generation Bi we can all give a big thanks to Kanye.
And your cool with that.
