it’ll be tough giving this album a fair listen after two of the members trashed it. even if its dope, i’ll still be thinking it coulda been doper cuz of what they said. they kinda ruined the listening experience and i haven’t even heard it yet.
^ who trashed it ?

A lot of people are going to feel this way, me not included. Shit like that never really bothers me or has an affect on my listening experience. That’s just me though…

^ word, I know the shitted on 8 diagrams, but not this. smh, I thought this is something they had creative control over .

^^
Both Rae and Meth are already saying the album was “rushed” and that they “didn’t have a budget”. Also admitting that it’s not their best work. SMH…

The article is over at DX, something about Def Jam rushing it and something about a budget (like that’s a plausible excuse now a days)

^ it wasn’t “absolutely terrible”. it was a good album for the time it came out in. he stopped doing all the sound effects and such for resurrection, so that album aged better, but if you were listening to das efx and lordz of the underground back then, com’s album sounded fine when it dropped. ’2 scoops of raisins’ is still one of rashid’s best emcee showings IMO. the soul by the pound rmx was the beginning of the shift in his flow and the improvement in his production (particularly the latter), laying the groundwork for the more revered resurrection

The ex didnt show up to the dinner. I was able to breathe easy, enjoy some Rollatini while getting tipsy on crushed grapes, and finish my night with a L of trainwreck.

^ but rae trashed 8 diagrams, which sounded way better than he described it. these dudes are their own worst critics.

^ true, what you need a budget for, when you got the internet, and rick codero.

that’s just it: most rappers talk about every album like it’s gonna be a classic, ” it’s a movie, we changing the game” etc, etc
so for them to be lowering expectations
already, it’s like whaaaa?

>>^ it wasn’t “absolutely terrible”.

okay, i was being harsh, but he’s really annoying to listen to on that with those high pitch squeak inflections in his voice mixed with the Das biting. it’s a bad album and his worst imo. only song i really dug on that was the soul by the pound rmx(video version).

^ not comparing wu to mj at all, but just as a point about listening to artists who criticize their own work…quincy jones didn’t want to include the intro on billy jean…him and mj fought forever on that…that’s one of the most recognizable/dopest intros ever…i don’t let what the artists thinks affect what *i* think about their music…artists are their own worst critics…and they sometimes make the wrong choices (nas’ lost tapes is exhibit a for why he should never be responsible for designing his own album tracklistings…LOL)

^ everyone came along years after that album dropped to say com was biting das on that record. where? das efx wasn’t doing that “high pitched squealing” as you describe it. com’s voice and flow was totally different from das efx’s. he didn’t bite the sewer concept like a lot of rappers. i don’t get where people see the com/das similarity. pick two songs – one com song from ‘dollar’ and one das song from ‘dead serious’ – and tell me how they’re similar.
keep in mind that dead serious dropped in april of 92 and dollar dropped in october of 92. do you seriously think in 5 months, com completely absorbed das efx’s style and replicated it on his debut album? LMAO. come on now. their styles developed independently and i don’t think they sound alike at all.
