I wonder if Jay Elec is really about all that start a revolution shit he raps about. What’s his track record?Or is them just words.
March 15th, 2010 at 9:42 am
Here’s my “put you up on game” post of the week, and it’s for all the rappers who are recording at home without a real studio. If you have some ambient noise in the background, say caused by your computer or sound leaking out of your headphones while you record, just record the room sound again, without you rapping. Just stand there with the headphones on. Then, whatever gets recorded, take that track and reverse the polarity (so that a peak is a valley and vice versa). Leave that track in the mix. If it works out just right, the opposite sound waves should cancel each other out and clean up you vocals a little bit, if you’re looking for a more polished sound. Something I read in a book this weekend.

that being said, being with Erykah is kind of like a “down for the cause” cosign. A black man, any man, really, going from homeless to successful is kind of revolutionary in itself.

Other thing is, I think cats don’t really grasp the concept of revolution. Getting educated, getting jobs, owning businesses and land, starting schools, eating right, taking care of your body, that’s revolutionary. Not saying that revolutions can’t involve violence, but MLK and Ghandi were revolutionaries, too, and the things they did changed the game. It was thought, words, and action that made the difference. One alone wouldn’t have done the job.

Also, Monch hasn’t had a good album since Internal Affairs. He released some alright material, but by Pharoah standards, he’s been half stepping for like a decade. And I’m a huge Monch/Organized fan and also think he’s one of the best (nh).
March 15th, 2010 at 10:15 am

Are sample clearances the only thing that prevents you from dropping a proper album?
^^
Naw, in all honesty, I’ve never been too worried about sample clearances. If I happen to make a song big enough that the original artist comes looking to collect, I still see that as a W. I’ve been debating back and forth on the actual merits of releasing a proper album versus free downloads and havent quite come up with a conclusion for myself yet.

True but, does a teacher really have anything else to offer but words? Some people are meant to talk and teach, or at the very least “drive change or inspire action”. The problem is when the rest of the people aren’t taking the que. King’s and Gandhi’s words would have been just that if the people didn’t take the cue and mobilize. As for the 5%s they are self proclaimed poor righteous teachers. We all know that those who can’t do teach. They are not the activist they are the teachers. Those that take action use the information from the teacher for fuel and inspiration. imo.

in all seriousness, imagine what would happen if:
there were 80% less black men in prison
80% more black men in college
that’s a revolution in itself, but it’s what I call a good start. What would happen if:
-Amber Lamps was just as adamant about improving Oakland public schools as he was about proving to Epic Beard Man that he wasn’t a shoe shiner? What if we all started getting brolic about these piss poor graduation rates?
-cats took twenty or 30 of the dollars they spend a month on bull**** and spent it on a gym membership or some weights and a perfect pushup for the crib?
-if every father was there for his kids
THAT there is revolutionary. We’re talking about a completely different America if that happens
March 15th, 2010 at 10:34 am
I’m not doo-dooing on those who teach btw. I’m just saying, when it comes to revolution, you shouldn’t talk about it unless you are about it. Yeah, people have to listen, but MLK, Che, Malcolm, Gandhi, and others died for their causes. They were talkers AND doers, imo
March 15th, 2010 at 10:38 am

side note, I’m not subscribe to any or all of
the guys’ I mentioned philosophies, just saying that they showed real committment to whatver the believed in. They put cause ahead of self. That’s why even 40 years after death they still resonate, while Sharpton, Tavis, and Jesse may not.
