It’s here. The mixtape along with the the final episode of John Public’s “NahMean” series, entitled “Vox Populi – Music of The People.”
The music industry gives us songs that we keep in our iPods and that play on our televisions, but in our fifth episode, we wanted to know what FANS actually wanted from their music. We talked to hip-hop, pop and indie rock listeners, as well A&R’s and radio DJs to try and grasp the science behind listening and loving music. The answers we got were surprising. It bothers me how few people of color are in this piece. Also, no disrespect, but we just watched a handful of white kids tell us what kind of music they like, which accomplishes what, exactly? To prove that different people have different tastes? To see who falls for radio records and who falls for (so-called) underground records? This doesn’t spark any new conversations.
