Video: tabi Bonney Interview w/ iHipHop

tabi Bonney recently sat down with Sam from iHipHop for an interview:

Tabi and I sat down to chop it up on a number of things. How hip-hop is becoming less ignorant even though it is a necessary evil, what the Hip-Hop community spends too much time talking about, and what they don’t spend enough time talking about. Tabi also goes into kicking it at the one and only Versace hotel on the Gold Coast of Australia, and his new fashion line Bonney Runway. Finally we discuss how he has always managed to remain original and ahead of the curve.

Bonus: tabi Bonney – Get Em

More of their conversation after the jump.

If you could make $70,000 a year making Jay Electronica music or $700,000 a year making Khaled music, what would you choose?

if the 70k is take home, after tax and all I’d take the 70. If my wife is working we can live a good life off of those two incomes and I’d feel comfortable knowing my music is being felt by everyday people.

  8. TheCo!!inB Says:

    @Fresh
Urea obviously in the black DC sense of the word.

  9. Fresh Huxtable Says:

I want to say I’d choose the Jay Elec classic status music, but I don’t know. And I don’t dislike Khaled’s music, just his comfort with using the n-word.

At the end of the day, everyone who feels like they would take Khaled money in exchange for making Khaled music shouldn’t hate on Khaled, because he’s doing exactly what you would do.

……make 70k, live good, stay real and make music that changes ppl’s lives, get some decent hoe’s……

…or make 700k, BALL OUT (swizzy voice), live the rich lifestyle, make ignorant coon music that packs clubs but pollutes minds, bag the baddest bitches in the city every night…….

    ….conclusion – WE DA BESSSSTT!!!!

  19. Fresh Huxtable Says:

On second thought, I’m pretty sure I would take the Jay Elec money and music, based on the fact that I made that decision before, but in a different realm than music.

  20. cOLD Says:

in this case, it’s the same thing, tho. You’d be making trash music for .7M versus classic music for .07M

^ you’re not thinking long term…at the time public enemy came out, there were dudes with hit records like the rapping duke that might have clocked more money that year, but 20-plus years later, PE still tours worldwide and no one can even find the rapping duke or joe ski love or any of those guys who had huge songs for like one year. i’d rather be the artist that can pull that 70 grand every year for 20 years and get maximum respect than that artist who makes 700 grand a year for 3-4 years, then gets laughed at whenever they try to put out new music, making 7 dollars a year every year thereafter.

  26. spirit equality Says:

tabi just said that rap can have “too much education”. wtf? i never heard of anybody clamoring during the days of african medallions for more coonery, but apparently tabi was pushing that line back then. all in the background in a public enemy video with a 40 ounce burning books. ha.
