XXL’s 10 Freshmen for ’10 Cover (April 2010)

The new breed of hustlers includes: Roc Nation’s first signee J. Cole, gangsta rap up-and-comer Nipsey Hu$$le, newly-minted Asylum lyricist Pill, 1017 Brick Squad member OJ Da Juiceman, indie-sensation Wiz Khalifa, G.O.O.D. music’s own Big Sean, underground favorite Fashawn, Gary, Indiana rep Freddie Gibbs, West Coast phenom Jay Rock and the latest addition to the Atlantic roster, Donnis.
XXL will be dropping a mixtape with DJ Whoo Kid next Monday, March 8 featuring new exclusive music from all ten. More info to come soon on the XXL 10 Freshmen for ’10 concert later this month in NYC.
XXL’s April issue hits newsstands March 16 and includes the Freshmen producers, hip-hop soul artists, hip-hop duos & groups, also an in-depth look on what it’s like to be a new rapper today, a look back at last year’s Freshmen class, with an Eye Candy that’ll make you say ahh.

Nippsey and J. Cole can spit! and out of everybody I think Nippsey is going to have the longest career. I can’t really say the same for J. Cole just because I haven’t heard a song from him yet, just mixtape stuff.
Donnis, Big Sean, and Wiz are Ok.. they have some good moments but overall they’re just ok. I don’t see them having long careers.
People need to be on the lookout for Freddie Gibbs and Pill..

Wiz Khalifa’s “Prince of The City 2″ = Classic
J. Cole’s “The Warm Up” = Classic
Big Sean’s “UKnowBIGsean vol.2″ = Classic
J.Cole and Sean gotta deal wit the two biggest egos in the game just to get their 1st albums out which is a problem. Wiz already got 2 albums under his belt and the 2nd merked iTunes. OJ shouldn’t even be on the list. Jay Rock and Nipsey only gettin shine cuz Game ain’t doin nuthin out west rite now. Donnis, Pill, and Gibbs will get destroyed by the labels. and i can’t speak on Fashawn cuz i haven’t heard ‘em yet

Now I look at this list and think alright, there’s different kinds of genre in rap and XXL tried to choose a rep for each one. Big fan of Wiz and Big Sean, and I just started hearing J.
