Video: Jay-Z Wants To Shoot Videos For “Venus vs. Mars” & “A Star Is Born”

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

At his Two Kings dinner last week, MTV asked Jay about what videos he plans to shoot next.

I wanna shoot ‘Venus vs. Mars’, that may be the last one.. I wanna shoot two, I been shooting two at one time. I’ll probably shoot ‘Venus’ and maybe ‘A Star Is Born.’ But I definitely wanna shoot ‘Venus’ — I got an amazing concept in my mind.

There probably won’t be a video for “Stranded,” though.

I don’t think there will be a video. The number is ridiculous as far as the [money generated by the Hope For Haiti Now] album. I’m excited about the whole effort we put into the telethon. I don’t think it’s entertainment, I think it’s a real thing. It’s helping real people through a real tough time, and we’ll just move on from there.

He also talked about his next album.

I didn’t really start yet. I got a couple of scraps and I got a couple of ideas. I didn’t really go into the studio yet. I’ve been toying with ideas and direction and things like that. I got one crazy record. To be honest with you, it’s crazy. I got one and we’ll build from there. Whether it comes out this year or next year, it depends on the music and how it’s coming out. I don’t really have any dates.

Raekwon On Working w/ Method Man & Ghostface

Raekwon spoke to Entertainment Weekly about the fans’ reception of Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II, the new album with Meth and Ghost as well as his next solo album, Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang. Some highlights:

How did you decide to make an album with those two guys specifically?
It was something that was going to happen sooner or later. Us three, we always work good together throughout the years. On a lot of records, me, Ghost, and Meth was always next to each other. If you look at [the Wu-Tang Clan] as being the Lakers, we are the MVPs of the team. We are the ones that everybody may feel like takes us to the championship. Everybody else is going to play their position, but these three are definitely going to have to control the ball at some point. This is what the fans been wanting, man…You know, I work for the fans.

From your perspective, what do you three bring to a project? How do you balance each other out?
When we get together, it’s a lot of energy in the building, because everybody knows Meth, Rae, and Ghost for being super-lyrical, but still got that great character inside their rhymes. I guess that’s why people really is excited about this record. They’re saying, “Yo, these dudes put the Wu where they need to be at.” I don’t look at it like that. I look at us all as being one, still. I understand some may have a little bit more special gift than others, but it’s still a team effort. I love to get on tracks with brothers like Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, the GZA. The whole crew is golden, man. When you think of us, you gotta say, “Yo, these are the Jacksons of hip-hop.” But for me to get in a room with Meth and Ghost and do an album, it’s serious to me. I know it’s going to be a lot of lyrics in there, it’s going to be a lot of great energy, stories. We all master these different departments of rhyming. So you’re just going to get a great album.

Video: Jay-Z on BBC’s Friday Night with Jonathan Ross

Saturday, February 20th, 2010

In order for hip-hop to have sustained careers like a Bono or these huge rockstars, we have to stretch the audience. It can’t be a young man’s game. It has to be a genre of music.” (5:10)

Jay-Z hit up Jonathan Ross’ show while in London for the Brit Awards.

He talks about his relationship with Obama (2:50), Obama listening to Blueprint in the gym when Jay called to congratulate his Democratic nomination (3:25), and says that he’s been invited to the White House repeatedly but hasn’t been able to attend because of touring. (3:05.)

After that, he talks about staying relevant in rap at 40 years old (5:05) and describes his 40th party in the Dominican Republic (6:05), where Diddy was running around with the mic saying “take that, take that” [*dead*] (7:00). He also jokes about being the true creator of Beyonce’s “uh, oh” and “Single Ladies” dance (9:10).

Miss Info typed up a through transcription of the highlights here.

After the jump, an uncensored performance of “On To The Next One” with his live band adding more life to the track & Young Guru DJ’ing.
