Video: Kanye West Interview From The Day of His Car Crash in 2002
Not sure if this was ever released before, but DJ Whoo Kid dug up this interview footage of Kanye West from October 2002. This was apparently shot right before the studio session (with Ludacris) which led Kanye to fall asleep at the wheel and crash his car later that same night. He then of course recorded “Through The Wire,” which led him to put out his debut album The College Dropout, a year and a half later. This month marks the 6 year anniversary of the album’s release.
What’s weird is, aside from all of the things he managed to predict in this video, he’s discussing another car crash he was in right before this was shot. A young Joe “3H” Weinberger also makes a cameo and there’s an a cappella freestyle at the end.

I drove my hooptie right up until the end of last year for 11 years, and it was used when I got it. Bumper fell off going through the automatic car wash, I had to snap it back in. Little kids staring at me. “Yes little girl, I drive a hooptie.” two hands required to let up my window.

only thing i’d add about this video is saying that college dropout came out ‘two years’ after the accident is misleading…more like a year and four months.
