^one of the most painful truths I have to deal with. Eventhough I side with Beenie in this debate, I can also understand Jay’s perspective. It’s pretty fuckin hard to watch the cats you grew up with fall to the wayside in form or another as life goes on. It really fucking sucks to log onto facebook and see new pics of your best friend since grade school acting like he’s still in junior high. Except he’s not acting. This has become everyday life for him. Weed, bitches, booze, new gear, no gas, no job, no liscence, no electricity & two kids. And the worst part is that he’s not the only one that I personally know. It makes me sick to know that I stood by for years and watched this develop – like a train wreck in HD super slow mo.

    Fuck.

my dudes have their moments. when the youngins and i use to go to clubs in the hood they would always put me in the forefront to initiate discourse between i and the acquired group of girls. shit use to irk me cause i’m thinkin i’m not the mary kay of the squad, especially if i wasn’t feelin near one of the girls in the group. i’d do it anyway cause, aint no fun if the homie can’t have none, right. then i’d tell the crew let’s try something different. like a top 40 club near the colleges out here. or some shit where they play black music mash-ups exclusively just so cats can spread game out. no riders. i’d get at niggas later on some, fucks wrong w/y’all? box is box! those venues, females no matter what nationality definitely wanna see hood cats in there. moot point, but founded. i chopped it/smashed a few trust fund breezies that way. on the other side of the coin tho, i feel cats limit themselves and alienate me cause i’m open to other things. plus, i aint in the hood anymore so it’s some outasight outa mind shit w/dudes often. it’s cool tho. cause when it’s time for business niggas ante up for a promising return. there will always be exceptions amongst niggas and there understanding of success thereof. what i know is, if you cease to grow, you cease to exist.

I was laughing at “fuck y’all, im going pop.”

  15. Bricktop Says:

^yeah, I totally agree with the seasons thing. I guess the problem is that I hold a little bit of guilt for whatever reason. The part that disgusts me is that where I’m at in life, I just can’t hang around this cat, but he can’t even see this. Idk it’s like I helped to create a monster and then bailed on him for a few years to get my life together. When I came back around I had changed, but he didn’t. Like I said, I don’t think I’ll ever feel anger for dude, but certainly feel guilty for having to turn my back on him and walk away from the metaphorical burning building.

they need to dead the dunk comp or get the stars involved. MLB stars compete in the homerun comp, NHL stars compete in the skills competition. hardly. I grew up with Dream Team one and two types of players. What’s that mean, you say? Just like rap, the NBA was a hell of alot better in the prior two decades than it has been for the last. Today’s game has zero fundamentals. Plus the rules have continually tweeked to bastardize the “sport” ever more. Besides, somebody needs to tell these kids that tattoos do not equal talent. And please, for the love of God, don’t get me started on LeBron disgusting existence in the league.

Haven’t followed isn’t the same as flat out not seeing something. Needless to say, I haven’t payed any attention to Durant. I’d given up on pro basketball before he came into the picture. As far as LBJ goes, how can anybody not notice that train wreck? I mean, i have been living on earth for the past couple of years. Seriously though, sitting through an entire game is excrutiating. It’s like watching professional junior varsity squads or some shit. Nobody can hit free throws anymore for christ’s sakes!

  42. Bricktop Says:

Jordan earned his. YouTube some highlight reels for further proof. LeBron was given “the pass” before he even set foot onto an NBA court, whereas Jordan not only earned his pass – he practically invented it. I’ll be the first to admit that LeBron is a ridiculously athletically gifted human speciman. Other than that. . . he still has some accomplishments to . . . accomplish.

    Hip hop 95-2005»»»»hip hop 85-95
^true, but 90-2000>>>>>2000-2010. And that goes for the NBA and heavyweight boxing too.

  43. Bricktop Says:

When a collection of weathered has-beens can unite to completely dominate the entire league, a la Boston, then you know the game is damaged. But, yeah you’re right. I don’t really pay attention like that anymore so views are a little skewed.

    nah, No-Sign at all

and if you missed the decade Kobe was in his prime (n) thats kinda a loss in itself

  45. Bricktop Says:

Suddenly, I feel the need to retract a previous statement.

I have not been immersed in everything NBA related for the past decade like I was the decade prior. I used to actually sit through entire regular season games. Now I just catch sportcenter once or twice a week and try to watch a couple of finals games.

    Moment of clarity pause

or maybe I’m just getting old and simply don’t have the spare time to devote to a sport that I once cherished (deep breath), soooo out of the resentment that grows from my frustration with maturity I actually revert back to my immature ways and wrongly justify my absence from NBA fanhood on “the league not being what it used to”.

  46. Sleep Says:

Kobe is jordan with fewer rings but will have the same amount by the time he retires. People say kobe is selfish well so was jordan. Jordan never made any of his teammates better. Pippen wouldve avg 25 points on any other team. Who did jordan make better? Kerr, amstrong, lol. And we all saw jordan push russell to hit that game winner in the finals.

  47. Bricktop Says:

Jordan never made any of his teammates better. Pippen wouldve avg 25 points on any other team. Who did jordan make better?

^3 massive statement failures in a row.

Had to do a double take and make sure my bifocals weren’t upside down.

  48. Bricktop Says:

The only person to get rings with AND without Jordan is Rodman, though several of Jordans teamates definitely tried. That kind of means that Jordan had some sort of positive influence on the guys around him. This next statement is gonna suck b/c I feel he was arguably the greatest #2 (whoa!) (as in option, not position) ever, buuuutt Pippen did play for another team – a fairly decent team mind you – but he just couldn’t make the magic happen without his ace (no Gary).

    I’m just sayin. . .

  49. Bricktop Says:

And here’s the kicker: no matter what they accomplish, Kobe and LeBron will always be compared to the great one. There’s really nothing they can do to step out of his shadow. Jordan, on the other hand, doesn’t have that problem.

  50. Sleep Says:

The problem with the nba is that its too predictable. You know who will be the last 4 teams in the conference finals before the season even starts. I just hate when people say the nba is the thug league and that’s why they don’t watch. The nfl has more criminals than the nba but they don’t call it the thug league. Well will never see another iverson dude was coperate thugging for real

  51. Bricktop Says:

    And ftr: Kobe>Lebron
    IMO.

    ^^
I love NBA baketball, but I definitely agree with this point. It’s a gift and a curse, because the NBA is the one sport league where you know the best team is going to win the championship 99% of the time.

  54. Bricktop Says:

This sucks, but I’ve got to go make the wife VD breakfast.

Glad I could make you laugh.

The NBA needs to re-format the league and such. Although it’s not easy, they need to cut down on the number of games, 82 games is too much. Your team can lose 20 straight AND still have the opportunity to end up over .500 or at least .500. It’s stupid. They also need to get away the East vs. West final system, it should be the two best teams out the whole league, not one from each side. It’s messed up. The playoffs should be seeded for the best 16 teams in the league, not 8 from each also. I don’t care if it’s gonna be 15 teams from the West and 1 from the East, or whatever.. it would make for more interesting basketball… cause right now the NBA is too predictable.

The dunk contest also needs majorly revamped or done away with. Word to Nate doing dunks that had all been done before during last nights conest. Mad creative…

    =============================
    Dear Joe88,
Special Ed was a very credible rapper in his day. !0 regular kids in the street have never heard of Wiz but if we could go back in the time machine at least 8 out of 10 wouldve known about Special Ed

  72. Joe 88 Says:

The NBA is good, not as exciting or as good as 80′s & early 90′s ball, but it’s pretty okay. Think about how bad late 90′s basketball was, right, most don’t remember taht, or when the knicks played the spurs in the finals, that was bullshit basketball, lol.

  73. Black Brokaw Says:

The NBA probably wont reduce the number of games because of the amount of money that not only they make but ESPN and other TV networks. NBA broadband is a big money maker as well because some people want to watch every game everyday. There’s too much money to be made. They need all the story lines and drama plus the statistical aspect of the game too. Another reason they wont reduce the game amount is because of the cyclical nature of the sports world. As one ends another begins as to continue the great distraction.

As far as all-star weekend…they could throw horse in there however that could take a long time to complete. Dunking is limited. It all depends on the athlete hence Lebron always being begged to compete. Anything else is probably going to be shot down because of injury concerns. With that being said we just have to keep it moving.

Co-sign. There’s only so much an athlete, regardless of how talented they are, can do. Unless the NBA wants to add trampolines and shit, I don’t see many “New” dunks are going to happen

^Bullshit. Having 2+ superstars doesn’t make a team automatically better (word to Melo and A.I). Getting rid of teams wouldn’t work either. Besides Melo ain’t doing it on his own; the nuggets were getting by quite fine while he was injured.

I really think the NBA needs to mix up the conferences from east and west to american and national or something. Therefore they prolly have to reduce the number if games, but who gives a fuck about a pacers vs. Bucks anyway?

Sidebar: That we are the world remix wasn’t as bad as people made it out to be. Cut out the group rap, cut down on wyclef yelling all over the place, and give kanye & will.i.am (??) more bars toward the end and it’s pretty solid.

The league needs to find a way to enforce fundamentals and basics. Not saying go overboard, but some type of balance is needed. It’s like everybody wants to be like Mike – even benchwarmers. But there’s s reason that there was only one Mike. The league has shifted too far in this direction. And yes, I blame Jordan’s success. He filled seats like no one before. Can’t blame the league for catering towards this type of business model – bottom line, right? Kind of like the way the NFL cateres to QB’s. Anyhow, balance in roundball is needed. As much as it kills me to say it, an emphasis needs to be put on the way the 90′s era Jazz and Spurs played (and I’ll throw Duke in there for good measure). I really feel that if this were to happen, then the overall quality of gameplay would evolve and increase dramatically. Just my opinion.

^hey jitbag, you totally missed the point. Trust me, I despised watching those teams more than anybody else. But whereas that style of play is one extreme, today’s version of basketball is the absolute other extreme. When things lean too much towards either extreme, the overall quality of the game suffers. Thus, balance is needed.
