Illmatic > Reasonable Doubt
February 12th, 2010 at 1:15 pm
Gotta be honest, I’m really surprised this album is actually being released, thought it was another one of those typical collabs that gets mentioned for years with no product to show for it.
Also, the second song that leaked off this > the first song that leaked, and I’m not sure, but I think this is the first.
Gotta hear this new verse tho…

With no biases or individual views attached, you’re right, its not close. But as far as listening experiences go, I personally hold them in pretty close regard.

That Dyson book on Illmatic is actually a decent read. It’s a little over analyzed, but that tends to happen when you do dissertations on music. I recommend everybody at least flipping thru it.

Let’s not get crazy.
Like land said last week, and like many said before, NO rapper has ever had a run of consitency like Jay had from 98 to 2002. With the slight possibility of Ice Cube.
6 albums ranging from excellent to classic in a 6 year period? Come on son.

^you know what i have realized… both mc’s are listened to when you are in a certain mindset… no shots but if you listen to jay your mindstate is one of ignorance and greed… and there is a place for that…
nas is someone i personally listen to to get more of a message… not that rap is by any means where i go for personal growth.. but its good to see it mirrored BACK… and nas has the tendency to do that…

It’s a goshdarn shame when producers like DJ Toomp cut down on their output involving big names in order to work on their own artists too soon.
There’s a time for that but you have to wait until, your fully established. Guy had a couple of GREAT years, but he’s not famous enough to push an artist by himself, like Kanye, The Neptunes, or Timbaland are. He IS talented enough, and he can get famous enough by doing more work with the big players for a while longer, and maybe even appearing in the videos [and maybe saying something on the tracks, not rap but you know, the talking parts at the beginning/end].
It’s like Just Blaze. They’re doing some work for famous dudes, I know Toomp had joints on the T.I album, and probably Jeezy’s too, and Blaze had stuff on T.I and Wayne’s stuff. But they need to be behind some big hits, with more artists like this.
^Long term this probably works well financially, too. Not everybody’s up to the task of running their own label [vanity or not].

First, the hook is damn corny. It makes me almost want to puke. Second, Nas’s verses were meh. Second above first. Damien Marley is somewhat lame in general. It sounds in total like something you would find some white boys blasting as a motivation tool, kind of like how retards play Young Jeezy and Gucci Mane and “relate” by calling it the call of “real” niggas when they live at home with mom and dad.
