When there are more kids going to prison than high school or college. When teenage pregnancy is on the rise (again) and abortion as birth control is out of control (again). There are issues that should take precedent over childhood obesity. A fat kid that can read is much better off than a skinny kind that can’t. This “Let’s Move” initiative is a waste of money and a waste of time. How about the initiative to get computer in all schools in America? How about the initiative to get new text books for all schools that need them. How about using that ten billi to get some new teachers and give the successful teachers pay raises? ^ A few years ago for the NBA they changed the draft age to 19 because colleges were losing money (this happened right after LeBron got drafted). So you can sit out a year. Or if desperate enough fail a year in high school. In the NFL you have to go to camps before you can get drafted depending on how old you are. I don’t remember exactly how it works with the NFL though.

The only reason why paying athletes has become this issue is because majority of the kids that play D1 basketball and football within the top-tier conferences are piss-poor to begin with. Yeah, they get a stipend but it ain’t enough to “make” it during the week.

Real rap, I don’t know how many of you are familiar with Vashti McKenzie (I believe she’s the only Black female to be made a bishop under the Roman Catholic archdiocese, or somethin’ like that, you can google it). Anyway, back in 99, her daughter needed a date to the prom (she was a year younger) to the Baltimore School for The Arts (Tupac, Jada Pinkett, etc). My mother’s friend, Ms. Debbie, was a mutual friend who told my momz about the deal, whom eventually asked me. My mother showed me a picture of her and I was like, she iiiiiight but I’ll go. Anyway, I meet shorty in person at Ms. Debbie’s crib and I’m thinkin’, “EEL! this aint about to happen!” Shorty had acne galore. I ended up making an excuse and stood her up for her prom. The point of this story is that I think I fucked up a free ride to Howard University because that’s where shorty went for 4 years (free) while Vashti was in Africa. AND her great-grandmother was one of the founders of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. I used to see her in the club (Paradox) after that happened, and shorty used to hit me with the *blank stare* and the Magic Johnson no-look look-away.

I said i see the argument of college kids getting compensated but i don’t completely agree. These kids are getting a FREE education, a free education that 90% of the kids that attend those school aren’t getting. Kids of all races. I do feel in certain instances they should be compensated because of all the money these higher ups make of them but at the end of the day most of these kids will have had 1 in a life time experience at that school and be millionaires in a short time.

Just for the record I think Michelle is an amazing woman so I would never throw shots but her initiative is bullshit. You have to admit, kids need books and computers way more than they need a lunch initiative. Make the street safe so the kids can play until the street lights come on. Give them new books, access to new technology and engaging teachers. Give them conflict resolution and counselors that have experience with life coaching and child psychology. Then give them a healthy lunch that will get them through the day with out sugar induced highs and lows. With all the violence in America’s schools I think the “Let’s Move” initiative is poorly timed and ill advised.
