In the 80′s there was Quincy, in the 90′s there was Dr. Dre… just last month, Billboard Magazine named you producer of the decade
Pharrell was invited to give the key note speech at Midem, a music business conference held in Cannes, France. It was in Q&A format with Rob Stone, who is the co-CEO of Cornerstone – who you might remember from Pharrell’s Billboard cover.
UPDATE: I sat through this 40 minute interview earlier today and Pharrell had some really good shit to say. If you have the time, I suggest you watch/listen to what he said while out there.

Wow, can anyone make an intelligent comment? I think Pharrell has changed hip hop in his own way. He started the “Bape” style in America. While he has elevated into the galaxy of “pop” culture, I think he might be too detached. But I do think people take him for granted. He smashed the new Jay-Z album, and the Clipse album is pretty good. But other than that, I guess I have to check wikipedia for the past couple years. As a “producer” though, I think the decade award should be for “business man diguised as a producer” because all that stuff Pharrell is doing really does not involve HIS music. Props to him for thinking bigger than most artists who spend everything on themselves though……Why doesn’t 50 or Jay do some shit where kids can go. Let’s start here…. why doesn’t Manny Fresh ever get any acknowledgement for his astonishing contribution to the game? just consider what he accomplished on his own during a time period when every other successful hiphop label retained a stable of producers (i.e. Badboy/hitmen, No Limit/Beats by the Pound, Deathrow/Dre & all his children, the Roc/too many to list, etc. . ).
and yes, i’m aware that a fair amount of his music became repetative and was sub-par at best, but damn. just the sheer amount he put out in such a relatively short period of time is mind-boggling. plus he has a laundry list of bangers.
i’m just sayin. dude deserves to start being included in those discussions. you know what i’m talkin about. so i’ll start:
