It amazes me how so many of these hiphop heads are so overly critcal while 75% are in their mom’s basement burning underground music and harshly judging rappers, only to feel better about themselves. Why do you guys care what another man does? Why do you guys always want to tell somebody who is already rich how to spend their money? Do you guys need Dad’s or uncles or something?
Saying Jay-z should do this or complaining how he is spending his money has no direct effect on you whatsoever. Why do you care so much? How about you make music that you like. It’s only broke black people that talk about what the next man should do with his money. Jay-z is an entertainer, he’s not Ghandi or mother theresa. He said from the begininng since reasonable doubt, he’s about his money. Whats wrong with a black man being rich? Are people that Jealous of Hov?

No one’s looking to Jay-Z to change the world.
At least I’m not.
But he has a responsibility to use his status as a platform to inspire the youth.
Bragging about buying bottles of champagne the size of a midget isn’t gonna do it.
Could Jay pull off an album like Untitled? Could he make a song like “I Can”? I wanna say he could but he’s never really shown any evidence that he even wants to, outside of that “rhyme like Common Sense” line. And even that I don’t believe.
There’s no subtext to his songs. It’s all surface shit. As long as he’s been in the game and as much as he’s experienced in his lifetime, I just expect more. I understand not wanting to go back to the drug raps (even though there is a way to do it without pretending he’s still in that life) but the bourgeois shit he’s spitting now isn’t any better. Nas has managed to find a balance, even if it means losing some sales. While Nas shuns the spotlight, Jay lives for it. If you’re gonna play that role, have something to say that means something to someone other then yourself.

But he has a responsibility to use his status as a platform to inspire the youth.
>> This is probably purely a difference of opinion but what the heck. I think our generation(assuming you’re an 80′s baby) got tired of status quo and our elders not practicing what they preach. If you really delve into what jay has represented as a black man through his rise to fame, it is quite unprecedented and remarkable.
To me a track like ‘So Ambitious’ is more sincere and inspiring than an ‘I Can” ‘cos it seems contrived. On his MTV diary, he stated that he believed more in leadership by example than preaching and that is where he separates himself from the pack. At the end of the day I draw more from a persons character than what he actually says and IMO.
He is the most inspirational Hiphop artist once you step outside the U.S, meaning a lot more kids look upto Jay as inspiration than any other artist I know.
Pause this entire speech.

^this is most disingenuous bullshit i ever read on nahright.
you are writing this after watching dude do what he can to help in haiti. he coulda skipped this and just mailed a check. or less. he coulda sat home and did nothing. so not only is your argument wrong, your timing is weak.
second, dude don’t gotta sing “i can”. HE LIVES IT.
maybe he talks about champagne to keep the kids paying attention to him?
