Video: 88-Keys: Between A Roc and A Hard Place (Meeting Kanye)
“Within minutes of us meeting each other, he told me he was gonna be a superstar. I was like ‘why?’ He was like cuz he raps.”
In the 3rd (and final) installment of Gasface‘s interview, 88 recalls meeting Kanye at Baseline in ’01.
The rapper/producer remembers the first convo he ever had with his future great friend and executive producer, vibin’ on the way back to their respective places in Newark… while telling about their common history and the evolution of their friendship, he reveals how he got his name from a Large Pro & Q-tip freestyle a long, long time ago.

Nas is a close number two, however. Illmatic alone (despite the fact it has aged poorly beatwise) reserves his spot in the hip hop HOF. I mean the guy shot slugs from his brain just like a rifle. Dope punchlines, imagery, and smooth flow.

I had to make her a new folder.
Good times.
