This is crazy.
In 2009, VTech and Mochilla put on a 3 part event series entitled “Timeless,” showcasing The Suite for Ma Dukes orchestra, Mulatu Astatke, and Arthur Verocai, and March 2010, they will be releasing a limited edition box set DVD of each event, w/ extra behind the scenes footage, poster, exclusive music, full liner notes, etc. Although the Suite for Ma Dukes event maybe most relevant and of interest, w/ it’s features from Posdnuos (De La Soul), Dwele, Bilal, Talib Kweli, Common, Karriem Riggins, and many others, all 3 events help create a bridge between producer/arrangers of yesteryear to the modern day hip hop producer.

The original beat sounds much better. Precisely cause Jay Dee was a great producer. The way he chopped, mixed, filtered his beats made them amazing. The sounds good and I guess it’s a tribute but it isn’t touching the original work.

Interesting to read the random notes here – especially about getting Ma Dukes paid..why did you think we did the show? Those of us that A) knew Dilla and B) know Ma Dukes well know that we all work hard all year to keep the flow going. She was also very inspired by the show and total album proceeds from Suite for Ma Dukes go to Ms. Yancey. So I guess if you don’t know the 411, maybe you shouldn’t blather on randomly about ish you know nothing about. It’s like all the people that came out the wood work after he passed..where were they when Jay needed help the most? No where…..
