I think the biggest problem is that producers of Black comedies rely on satire too much rather than wit.
^
Black cinema is in the stone ages and will never emerge.
^I think that’s highly pessimistic though I do believe it needs work. We WILL create a great comedy film again. Just have to let the bullshit subside.

the real problem is hollywood doesnt want to see black folk doing and acting in ways that dont follow the nigger narrative in mainstream media.

oh give me a fucking break. if there was a black wes anderson making thoughtful, deep, multi-layered shit — studios would throw money behind it. it’s just not there. there’s a dearth of talent. there just is. where’s our generation’s spike lee? shit’s sad. whoever it is, is making music videos where bitches are having champagne poured down their ass.

That’s not true. I know a few young Black actors that says it’s hard finding work because they don’t want to be subjected to the stereotypes. There are PLENTY of Black screenwriters out there but many of their ideas are shunned. Now, if they had a major COSIGN by someone like Spike then they’d probably get the budget. But these type of things are a rarity.

I know it’s a surprise, I know it’s not on the surface. I mean, I had an imaginary friend when I was kid, and his name was Shiloh. We used to play checkers with each other every day, and bless his heart, Shiloh would always let me win!

And from what I hear (childhood homie I spoke to recently; college grad, etc) ATL has become the new Black Hollywood for up-and-coming writers, producers, actors, etc. It hasn’t really bubbled yet, but I’m waiting to see what comes out of it. Relying on Hollywood to assist us in making creative films is futile at this point. We need to make our own products and have them come to us instead. Same way it should be done on a music level.

^If you’re a Black person, I don’t see how that’s a win. Homelessness has nothin’ to do with integrity. Tyler is a closet fag living out his fantasy via film. His movies are no different than the chitlin circuit plays that started poppin’ up in the 80′s (I forgot the dude’s name who produced most of them shits). He just took the plays to the big screen. I aint hatin’ but I’m definitely not impressed.

don’t hold your breath tho. the chance of atlanta being a hollywood for black folk is next to nil. i smell a whole lot of flops that go straight to DVD and a whole bunch of boujie black investors saying they’ll never invest in another shitpile independent black film again.
the only hope is Tyler Perry – tell your college homie to wear a wig and a dress and he’s be skrate.

black folk won’t admit someone’s gay until they see a dude jumping up and down on a float at a pride parade wearing gold speedos, angel wings and high heels – and even then they’ll say “yeah but he gets mad pussy” (c) eskay defending wayne

^ And exactly what grounds are you basing this on? Considering the fact that many of the Black professionals/entrepreneurs have moved into the area from ALL OVER the country it’s definitely possible. Many of our movements started small and have turned out big. Forcing the corporate world to invest our products AFTER we started making noise. This is why the South has it on lock as far as hiphop. Not because the content is groundbreaking, but because they established their foundation with an audience that supports. We’ve done it before and we WILL do it again.
Hollywood has been flooded with remakes and cartoon flicks lately because they’re out of ideas. But there are plenty of stories and ideas from a Black perspective that hasn’t been told. Not just the drug kingpin movie or the satire in-a-dress movie. Same goes for Latin films too because independently they are bubbling on the low.
