It’s not racist per se, but there are bizarre racial overtones. The blue people are definetly a hybrid of stereotypical pre-colonized Native Americans and blacks. Moreso Native Americans tho.
But more importantly, the movie sucked.

I thought the ‘blue’ people were clearly black people due to when the chicks blue color started to come off u saw her black skin and due to all the blue people had microbraids and pandora island was africa due to the islands beauty and animals and resources….but i can see the native american undertone also, but truth be told that movie showed how whited did everyone from native americans, to blacks to iraq (we fight terror with terror) all in that movie….funny thing was that movie was so far in the future and it showed crackas were still dirty

Yea, there was a small uproar when the flilck first dropped, but unlike Avatar, I think the overtones in D9 were meant to express some truths about the way Africans and other immigrant groups are treated.
Nigerians took a L in D9 tho. Which I don’t really mind, becuase Nigerians are kind of obnoxious.

I read a nice drop on Combat Jack’s page and then I read this essay from our friend the GrandMaster over at his site. Not only does the Grandmaster represent for kicks and comics, her also puts it down for social justice. I asked him if I could kindly reprint his drop on this page because it needs to get as many eyeballs as possible.
