So you heard it? Where does it rank amongst the others..?
^^
Yea, I copped that shit on Saturday. It’s the weakest of their albums, but still crackish. The “girl” songs on this are unlistenable, as opposed to just being reaches. And the production on the last three tracks (though I love the songs in their entirety), just don’t have the consistency of the other two LPs, which were crack beats all the way thru in my opinion.
With that said, its the 3rd best album of the year. As opposed to Lord Willin, which was top 5 that year, but faced stiff (ll) comp, and Hell Hath which actually was the dopest hiphop album to come out that year.
^excellent synopsis
December 9th, 2009 at 2:10 pm
I remember in a interview with No I.D that nowadays too many rappers use a different producer for each song on their albums. I can’t really think of a great album at the moment that has a a bunch of producers other than OBFCL2, BP1, and a few others. In the past decade the very best albums with not that many producers are –
Madvillainy
Stankonia
Hell Hath No Fury
College Dropout
Late Registration
Be
and some I can’t think of right now.

People also forget that most of these niggas was crack babies too.
^^^^
disagree.. only pain they prolly experience w prolly not gettin the toys they wanted…crack baby rappers have craziest life n the most pain in they lyrics..stories be crazy …(c)maino
^^I agree with crack baby pain, but most of them don’t know how to express that pain thru lyrics so they do it thru funny clothes, homosexuality and wacky tattoos.

yea ONE in house producer(s) allows the album to have more cohesiveness, a producer (or team of) can steer the album in a direction you just can’t get in a process of “getting beats” from a whole bunch of “hot” producers.

^^
Word. When did this become the trend? Illmatic was a clusterfuck of producers, but they all seemed to be on the same page. The “I’m getting all the hot producers” era started when R&B and hiphop melded, the economy was so good that niggas could afford it, and potential hits became more important than cohesive projects.
Word to Ghetto Fabolous. I’ve honestly never heard a Fab album in its entirety besides that one. It ruined him as an artist for me forever. Even if I do enjoy his verses from time to time.

I said it yesterday on twitter but the mix of TTCD (retail) is too bass heavy for most cars unless you’ve installed a sound system. The bass is way too pronounced on most tracks and it drowns out the instrumentation on most tracks. I didn’t mind too much though because Pharrell solo on the keyboard is less than to be desired. If I knew Chad was on the keys though I’d be heated.

OJ – talking to himself while simultaneously being treated like a king by the other inmates

December 9th, 2009 at 2:25 pm
you can thank Jay Z for that one as well (getting a bunch of diff producers). Right after IMLT V1 shit got outta control. It’s rare for a producer and artist to lock in now. 9th, Madlib and Kno (cunninglinguist) are the only ones I know who still do it.

“I never understood how a beat could make a rapper better when hip hop is essentially based on accapellas..if the rapper is wack..fuck the beat. Hip hop ain’t about beats as much as its about the vocals”
^^^^co-sign.
I’ve always felt the exact same way but the game changed. Nowadayz 1 hot beat can have the whole rap world quoting weak ass lyrics no matter how awful they may be. Whether its just a hot single that blew somebodys name up (see V.I.C – Get silly) or even worse, if bangin beats made your WHOLE CAREER (see Gucci Mane – any song).
Why can i quote a Plies verse when he is lyrically one of the worst rappers (i refuse to call him an MC) of all time? BEATS. Nobody listens anymore, muhfukkas just wanna dance 4 a few minutes and then its on 2 the next one

^ any one can pick a dope beat, but it takes a real artist to create dopeness off a subpar track. But hey if you wanna have the beat be the reasoning for your song poppin, and not the message in the content, who am I to judge.
